Default SuperCub LP.

Well I ordered my Hobbyzone Supercub Lp With Floats. I really wanted some input I have been flying rc jets for about 2 years and EDF's and Warbirds but have never bought a slow plane like this or a 3 ch. I wanted this cause I live on the ocean and really wanted a float plane but did not know if I would like it so I bought a cheap plane. I was wondering if it is weird flying with out ailerons? I know you cant do inverted very well but what is this plane good at? Does it have a good roll rate or any at all how is the CG? Am I getting the wrong plane for first time floats/ Slow plane? Thanks Guys in advance

you'll have a hard time in the water without ailerons. Allot of times on dead calms days you need aileron to pull one float off the water or else it'll just be sucked onto the surface.

A better choice, in my opinion, would have been the Great Planes Seawind EP. I have one, Minnflyer did a review on one, and we both agree that this plane is a great flyer and is aerobatic too.

My maiden was off grass, which was interesting for spectators (other flyers). They were all amazed at how easy it lifted off the ground, after some manipulating that is, but how nicely it flew after it was airborne.

I put a slightly larger motor in than what was recommended (still in the range of suggested power, but larger than what they would put in as a "RTF" sort of arrangement.

Anyway, it has all four controls.. throttle, rudder, elevator and ailerons.

It does tend to come in fast, though, but being a jet flyer, you would quickly get used to that.

Just a suggestion, perhaps for your next E-plane.

Yes, the Seawind EP might have been a better choice, butcoincidentally, I just returned from maidened the Super Cub on floats this morningfor my buddy who is reviewing it.

The weather was perfect, about a 5mph wind right in our face with justa little ripple on the water. Without ailerons, it was tricky to get itto track straight, but once it did, it lifted off very easily (In spiteof the fact that the plane sits on the floats with negative incidence -this was a big concern that proved to be moot).

The plane flies great and most of the flight was at 1/2 - 3/4 power. Itloops very well, but of course, you really can't do rolls withoutailerons.

All in all, it's a really fun little plane!

First off thanks for the replys. I was looking at the seawind and I could not find a rtf! I just wanted a plane that I could put the wing on and go fly. I did not want a plane that I had to do some work to get it flying. I bought a SeaCoota Sea Captian and man oohh man was that thing a peice. First flight it takes about 30sec of full throttle strait (i dont know the word for it) boating. It just does not want to lift off the ground so i got it off then BOOM CRASH and teh fing thing sunk. 80miles out in the ocean (was fishing for tuna) the thing sinks. That was a real hunk of crap and I waisted a good 250 on it and now its gone. Soooo I bought this plane and was wondering if you could take it over a little wake? Like little waves in the Florida sea? Also are the floats ok in salt water? Thanks guys you are awsome!

When you said "ocean" I was hoping you meant "Bay"

There are not many seaplanes that can handle even those small ocean waves

Minnflyer.. I was thinking that (being Coast Guard.. I seem to be somewhat familiar with "ocean" and "surf" ... RC and any sort of ocean surf are not a compatible pair [X(] ).

Aaaanyway.. you seem to perk my interest in stuff. First you got me on the Protege, then the Skylark 70, then the Seawind EP.. now look what you've done... Jeech.. good thing I'm a single stiff!!!

Oh man.. a Super Cub on floats!!! My ears just stuck STRAIGHT UP!!! [X(]
