Default SIG Kadet LT-25 engine oddity ...

Hi all

I am in the mood to build a kit for a change as opposed to assemble an ARF. Been looking for a plane that's cheap, easy to build easy and fun to fly and putter around with as opposed to tearing holes in the sky with warbirds. So, I am keen on a SIG Kadet LT-25.

The question I have is that I find the engine reccomendations is a bit odd ... Got a TT 36 Pro at without a home that I will put in, but looking at the specs, why is the recommended 2 stroke bigger than the recommended 4 stroke... It's usually the other way around ...

Wingspan 63 in 1600 mm
Wing Area 724 in² 46.71 dm²
Weight 4 - 4 1/4 lb 1814 - 1928g
Wing Loading 12 - 13 oz/ft² 3662 - 3967 g/m²
Radio Required 4-Channel
Recommended Engines .25 - .32 in³ (4.1 - 5.2 cm³) 2-Stroke
.20 - .26 in³ (3.3 - 4.3 cm³) 4-stroke

Great question! Could it be a typo on the box / instructions ? I would email them and ask. They are usually prompt at responding, I have contacted them in the past with questions.

Another thing, have you even seen a 4 stroke built in that size?

edit - Saito makes a 40 4stroke, so ... my guess is the sizes for the engine type are swapped around. I would still email Sig..

The kit has been out since 1999, so I doubt it is an error. The LT-25 is very lightly loaded, so the engine size spec'ed has more to do with prop size (diameter) needed to pull it through the air.

At the time it was designed there were several small 4 cycle engine available, such as the HP 21 and Saito 30 for example.

I was thinking the same thing. I bought an OS FS .30 with intentions of building the LT-25 and then the kits dissapeered for awhile, but my guess would be something heavy on the nose would be worse than being slightly on the lower side as power is concerned.

I had one with a webra 40 in it. The 40 size engines are a good match for this plane, but prop clearance was a problem with 11" props. Good luck with your build. It is a sweet flying airplane thats easy to build.

I had a Webra 40 in my Lt-25 and found it too much engine, too heavy, too fast. I flew it for quite a while with a Fox 25BB, rock solid nice flyer. I put 30" foam floats on the LT-25 and could lift off and fly ok but the power was marginal. I currently have an OS32 and it is an excellent match for land and sea operations.

Your 36 should work great.

with my 40 the kadet would fly at just over idle (long run times) and at full throttle could do some pretty impressive maneuvers. The lt 25 has a pretty good roll rate for a trainer.
