Mr. Bigaco, that sounds like a fun plane! I got the hangar 9 Spitfire with the Saito 100, About done with it but worried as heck about the first flight, Not yet ready in my mind! Wanted to have it ready and tested by War-birds over the Rockies but will have a Bird-dog and a Zero up there! Have fun with P-40!



Want to keep from crashing? take off and land higher!

tail draggers aren't necessarily hard to handle. some models track very nice and true. the key is take your time during set up it makes all the difference in the world. I have an old great planes P-51 .40 ARF, it tracks very well with just a sight touch of right rudder. I was nervous to maiden it and triple checked everything, the result was a good flying plane. I made the mistake of not being so cautious with my cub that I got off a club member. this plane had been flown before so I thought it would be okay. after numerous crashes on takeoff, I finally checked the CG and it was 4oz tail heavy. I took the time to go through the entire plane and now it flies fine(all tho it takes a lot more finesse on the runway then the mustang). my Sig someting extra is very easy to take off and land. I do find that one thing that is easier with a tail dragger is bleeding off excess speed on landing. the zig zag on the ground can slow a plane quickly, as well as being able to"spin out" and stop it with out the tip factor tricycle gear has.

With kids on the way, the boss (wife) has told me that I can only have one plane and it has to last me a while.

The planes i've got in mind are: Wold models Tucano 60, World Models AT-6 Texan, Top Flite T34 Mentor kit and the H9 Pulse XT 60.

Based on the ones mentioned above, what would people suggest as the most appropriate second plane?

my current trainer is a world models Mach 1 high wing trainer which I find is fantastic.

hey hampden tech i fly at wingbuster as well. You buy what ever plane that is considered a lowing trainer that you feel you would like to fly do not worry about having to many of the same kind of planes flying . The most important thing is that you like the plane because after all you will be flying the plane not the other guy! I started with a lt40 trike gear then went to another lt 40 i cut 6 in out of the center of the wing and took out all the (dihiedrile) not spelled right but you get the pic made it a tail dragger put a 55 ax on it it was my second plane. 3d was piper j3,4th mack the knife profile,5th will be my h9 p40 warhawk with 100 saito can not wait

Hi Bill,

I haven't been to Wingbusters yet this year (I've flown 3 or 4 times in Raynham though). I keep getting updates on the field condition from Bob. Too bad some idiot kids had to spoil a lot of hard work!

I'm flying a new (last year) Alpha 40 with the Spektrum DSM2 technology. I love it but I still have some work before I'm fully comfortable with the 40. I'm hoping at some point next summer to be ready for the low-wing trainer.

Mick, the H9 Pulse XT 60 or the 40 size are very good honest flying airplanes.

Hello Mick. I just recently went to a nice Low Wing [link=http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/159545.asp]Black Horse T-28[/link] low wing. The plane handles great and is very inexpensive and comes with flaps. It will do a couple things that you want. Get you into a warbird and be low wing. I have Magnum 91 2 stroke in it and it is a lot of engine. I would recommend going with a 70 size engine. You won't be disappointed with it.

I'm in the same boat and thinking about the hangar 9 twist and a 55AX two stroke or a pulse 40. I have a tuncano 40 (scale WB Brazilian AF trainer). The Tucano is way to hot for me at the moment. Or at least I think so. you have to land it hot and for some reason that really scres me, at least until I get more flight hours under my belt. I have also been flying the park zone typhoon2 3D. It's low wing and great to learn aerobatics on veery tough and easy to repair. All the guys at the field tell me that if i can fly the Typhoon then I can handle just about anything, actually am to where I can Knife edge, fly inverted and hold a hover for a half second, but in my mind I'm not ready. From the reviews I've read about the twist and the pulse, it's a toss up. the twist is easy to handle and can land slowly on a dime, but will bite you if not careful. The pulse handles just as well but not as 3d capable as the twist. So, I'm undecided at the moment. Will most likely go with the twist. It is cheaper. Although if I bought the pulse, I could keep the tuncano (up for sale at the moment) and use the fox 45BB engine from it to power the Pulse.

Hairy46, the lt 40 clipped wing is a blast to fly will hover take off almost vert and knife edge with ease. I am hoping soon i will be feel ready to fly the p40 if i can get more time at the field and the sticks. We had some young adults having a beer party at our field after a rain and tore up the runway. We had to put 11 yards of fill back to fix the ruts the good thing was they caught them leaving the field and was arrested.
Hampden tech you will get a lot of advise on what plane watch the threads and forums and then decide what plane you would like if you fly once a week it will be before next year you will be board with your trainer so be prepared and when you do put up your low wing for the first time you can use buddy box with your teacher if you had one which will take away a lot of your jitters!!!!!!!!

Mr. Bigaco, I am glad they caught them, Maybe they should have gotten work detail and fined the price to fix it plus! That way they could have paid for and fixed what they did! Our field is where the police can keep an eye on it but we still do have a few @$$hole's that have spun on the runway with four wheelers, it is blacktop! Well good luck with the P-40! we are in the same boat same Saito just mine is a Spitfire! Bob
