Default Venus 40 servo modifications???

Has anyone modified the servo locations on the Venus 40.? I just dont like the single servo for the dual elevator rods... or the long rod on the single sided horn for rudder. Maybe ive just gotten used to my aerobatic planes with a more complicated set up.

I was thinking possibly:

Pull-pull on the rudder - Servo mounted on underside of fuselage, closer to tail. Maybe micro MG servo.

Dual elevator servos on fuselage sides closer to tail as well. Micro MGs too. (unless there is another way)

Lighten plane by cutting lightening holes in area under canopy. Get rid of stock ply servo tray.

Im just dreaming here.....what do you guys think?

Has anyone ever done any modifications to their's? Please post any experience or pics if you have them.

Yup your dreaming

The micro servos you mention only have 17oz/in of torque which in my opinion is not nearly enough for an acro airplane.

I just finished helping one of my students setup a Venus 40 w/.61 Thunder Tiger for a power plant. We used JR/Specktrum 821 servos setup on six volts which have 88oz/in of torque @ 6 volts. The rigging is standard except for replacing the control hardware with ball link setups. The airplane maidened well after trimming out, just a few clicks of elevator trim and nothing required on the ailerons. The airplane flies very well, unlimited vertical, is going to be a fine initial pattern practice bird.

IMO there is not a whole lot of room in the tail area of that airframe to do too much. However if you have the time and ambition go for it!

ro347 ... are there issues with the plane? If it ain't broke don't fix it. Anyways:

i. Pull-pull rudder with mini servos? Which one? I think stick with your current set up;
ii. Dual elevators can be done with HS5085s, no issues, my pal uses that for his 2M plane, works great;
iii. lightening the plane? How much can you get by removing such minor things? Its not worth it.

Im just thinking of a project I guess. As for the Micros...I was thinking HS-82 MGs....I believe they put out 47oz at 6volts. Same torque as a standard servo at prob half the weight.

Ive never even flown the plane. I built it and lost interest in it! Ha!!!!!

Hey!!! Youve got to dream until you get it right!!!!
