Default Got my wind wings today

15 - 20 mile gust at the field today. Took all my planes with me to the field. When I got the the wind was kicking pretty good. Pretty much made up my mind that I wasn't flying. But a good friend that is one of the instructors. Said "I've seen you fly you'll be fine" "You gotta learn to fly in the wind" So in went for it. Flew the Tucano first, It took off and flew beautifully and handled the wind great. Landing was great. I was elated!! Fired up the decathlon and flew it. Same results. I'm glad those guys were there telling me I could do it. Otherwise I might have turned around and went home. It was a good day. I flew the decathlon three more flights (three tanks of fuel). GREAT DAY!! The one thing I did learn is that I have got to get another radio. My Jr Tx only has memory for two models and doesn't save the trim settings between the two. I promised myself that I will make up mind about the new radio by next weekend. Flying again Tuesday night. Can't wait! Took pics today too. Will post em up one day this week.

It's a great day, when you bring them back in as many pieces as they came in, isn't it? Congrats, and good success in the future. One day in the future, you will learn the limits, but that creates experience. A good friend of mine crashed today, but not a major one. Sometimes the wind does weird things, he got caught, but about 2 - 3 hours of work, and he will be fine.

You go Bill!!!! Today it was blowing with gusts over 45 so not a good day in my area. Tomorrow it is only supposed to be 3mph in the morning but there is a SAM event all week so we are all grounded until the weekend. At least the old antique models will have a great day for flying, some of us may be going out to watch. Reason I went to a bigger radio was the memory problem, my old radio only had memory for 3 planes but did have trim memory on them. Some really good radios to choose from right now!! Good luck!!

Bill (Flying Leather neck)

Glad you flew in the wind.

I like a bit of wind myself, it
keeps you ahead of the plane.
Most of our members don't fly
in the wind,so more time for those
that do. Get that new 2.4 Tx soon.

When I was looking I found two I liked right away, no problem finding them. I just couldn't figure out how to pay for one then replace all the RXs I would need. The search was a bunch of fun though!!

Yeah receivers are darn near as much as the radios! 65.00 for the Ar 7000's for the DX7! I need at least three to start with. Right now best deal I can find is new Dx7 for 229 and AR 7000's for 65 a piece. I do have some older guitars I could sell off and oh yeah, could sell the harley!!

Doubt I will ever sell them. But nice to know that I could. Couple of fenders, gibson's and Martins. But I don't think I could ever really part with them.

Bill,

I know what you mean.

I have a couple of Fenders myself, but
would love a Martin.

Bob

Get that new Tx yet ?

No TX yet, maybe tonight. I would certainly like to have it before I fly again. Although the weather today is perfect! if I can get away from work early enough I'm heading for hte field. May just take the typhoon electric. Getting dark earlier and earlier.
