Im very interested in building the king kobra. I currently have an alpha 40 and a GP Escapade. Im mainly looking for info on good setups. This will be my first kit build but I belong to an aero design team at my school and have access to lots of tools and material and knowledge for building. I would like to set it up with retracts (i love all those little bells and whistles). Also what sorts of power do you guys reccommend. I love speed, my escapade is a bullet but can still do some crazy twitcy snaps and spins. Im going to try out a parkflyer 3d trainer to see if i have any 3d interests but i think high speed pattern is more where my hearts at. They say on the site it can be set up with retracts and tuned pipe for max performance. Ive never tuned a pipe, nor know much about it.
I havent seen many posts about these birds so just wondering how others had them set up.
Thanks

It's a great kit and I am planning on buying another one. Get the retracts for it and a good engine. I had a YS .60 on my last one with a tuned pipe. It flies fantastically yet slows down to a gentle float for landing. I put flaps on my last one. mostly for fun, I don't think they did a lot. I aslo ran some navigation lights and landing lights just for fun. I suggest you buy one and have a lot of fun with it.

I definatly want to put retracts on there, I will probably go OS for the engine. Is the 61 fx good enough power for lots of speed or should i go to the 75 ax. Also should i bother with a tuned pipe as im still a relative beginner, and not too firmiliar with that process.

For a first kit build I would go with the 61fx and just the standard muffler. It will fly great and have plenty of power. You really don't need the tuend pipe until you are ready for it and you can re-engine the aircraft later if you want.

I've been flying my Sig King Kobra for three seasons now with a Super Tigre .61 Ring on it. I switched out the prop from a Master Airscrew 11x7 S2 Scimitar to a 12x6 S2 Scimitar prop. I was actually trying to slow mine down a bit; it was awfully fast with the 11x7 prop turning 13,500 rpms.
I don't have retracts or a tuned pipe on mine, but I wanted mine set up more for sport/pattern than maximum speed. You can get a header and tuned pipe for most any popular two-stroke, and the O.S. Max engines normally respond well to performance exhaust systems:

I really enjoy flying my King Kobra and I'm sure you'll love yours just as much. Good luck and good shopping!
