COMMENTS: Connectors on the InterLink Elite cord and included adapters make
the InterLink Elite compatible with the trainer jack on most Futaba
and all JR Spektrum and Tower Hobbies systems. Special adapters for
use with most older Futaba and Hitec systems are available
separately.
This is from the Tower Hobbies product description for RF G5.

Lots of variables. I have version 3.5 so these comments are based on that version.
The transmitter has to be turned on.
RealFlight has to be set to use the external transmitter rather than its controller.

Some transmitters have the 'trainer' function disabled in the software so you have to enable it. Not an issue with my 6XAS but is an issue with the 8U and 9C. Don't know about other transmitters.

It took a bit of time reading the instructions for me to get it working correctly.
