Boy, after successful flights yesterday, I was happy as can be. Decided to smooth out a wrinkle in the coating in the side of the fuse near the fire wall. Decided to use an old hair dryer. figured it wouldn't take much. heated the area up and smoothed out the wrinkle. I thought cool, looks better. Put the hair dryer away, walked back to the work table to tidy things up. WHAM!!! ARGH!!!! #@%@%@%!!! I noticed the canopy/windshield and it was badly and I mean badly distorted!! The heat from the hair dryer really messed it up!! I removed it and tried to re heat it with the hair dryer to smooth it out, but no luck. Looks like I'll be placing an order. I looked on tower, they carry everythnig but a canopy/winshield for the super decathlon. Hopefully the LHS can find me a replacement. I have searched the web with no luck. I have put the hair dryer away, never to be used again on plane wrinkles!! Anyone know of a good source for a replacement canopy/windshied?

Windshields should be available through the kit distributors or sometimes directly from the mfg. I don't trust myself with heat guns either.

Hey Bill
At 300 ft and 95 knots you will never see it. Fly it until you find one. Just tell the guys, you should see the other plane.

Bill, just try calling tower and ask them. That's one of the parts they don't usually advertise but often have in stock. I had gotten in one of there Cub kits and one side of the canopy had a crack in it, I just gave them a call and they had some in stock and sent me one. It's worth the time and trouble.

I posted over the ARF forum as I remembered from the build thread there that a couple of folks crashed their SD's. One guy responded that the seagull SD was almost exactly like the phoenix. So I went to horizon hobby and ordered the seagull canopy. Don't understand why phoenix doesn't seperate them. Will send them an email. but for 3.99 even if the canopy doesn't fit perfect, it's better than spending 54.00 for a fuselage I don't need. Then again I could say, "but honey all I need to get now is a set of wings"

Well, I called hobbico, guy was real nice even went to the Spare Airplane parts box in the warehouse and no luck. I called tower, nope have to order the fuse. I ordered the Seagull canopy, thinking it would fit. Got it yesterday, way too wide. I think I have devised a plan to get the original one looking descent. Will try it tonight and see what happens.
