I would like to get some Monokote Cub Yellow but it is out of stock at Tower, Advantage, and Hobby Zone. Does Tower own all these? How can every shop be out of cub yellow....and ONLY cub yellow?
Tower will not even give a date on when it will be in stock.
I do not want to cover with red/white...everyone does that and I do not like blue (too close to the sky) so I was planning on yellow/green scheme but want the darker yellow.

What about the Ultracote. They have a little darker yellow. Shrinks nice to go around those wing tips and the turtle deck. Just a though......

Tower is the Hobbico outlet and they are manufacturer/distributor of Monokote. If they are out then it is likely that many of the other places that buy from them are out also.
I'm sure it will be back in stock soon. I would imagine Cub yellow is a popular color.
If you have any good hobby shops within driving distance they might have it on hand.
You could also just go with Ultracote as was mentioned.

I am not sure about buying off ebay...might be old material.
The other reason for cub yellow is that I want to paint the cowl and want it to match one of the two colors on the plane. Monokote only has a few basic colors for their spray paint (red, blue, black, etc) but also cub yellow.
What are alternatives? I do not want to mess with automotive paint. What about Krylon for plastic? Does anyone know if their yellow (sunshine) is remotely close to cub yellow? I suspect the match would not look good but anyone try?

the seller on ebay myatomic sells lots of monokote. What is the othe color that you are going to put on the cub. My experience with monokote paint is that it stinks. I have a 1/4 scale cub that is yellow with back starburst. I then painted the cowl black.

second color was metallic green. The main reason for using MK spray was that they had cub yellow. TH has Tamiya and Testors but no way to match to the covering then.
If I could match the green close that would be OK but black does not seem right for green/yellow.
Any experience with coverlite covering (they have cub yellow).
A while back I asked about covering the entire cowl with MK covering instead of paint but did not get a good vibe on that one.

Nelson Hobbies has his paint in MonoKote and Ultracote matching colors. Also any house exterior latex can be made to match if you take a sample of the covering to them. Nelson is fuel proof, house paint is not. It has to be clear coated with a fuel proof paint.

Goirish: This is not a cub...it is GP extra60 but I like the cub yellow versus regular yellow. What did you mean by first choice? Coverlite or MK over the ABS?
pmw: I never thougth about latex paint. Does it stick to ABS?

chemie,
Sand the ABS with 400 grit sand paper and clean with alcohol. Lightly prime the ABS with auto primer such as Rustoleum or DupliColor. Let dry completly and the latex will stick. It will NOT stick to bare ABS. Good luck!

chemie,
You can use an additive for latex called Floetrol. It is available at the same place you can get the paint. Floetrol is made to smooth out brush strokes. I've had good luck using a foam brush instead of bristles. You might want to thin the latex a little with water, but it doesn't take much for brushing. (50/50 for spraying). Try to apply the paint with very few brush strokes. Let it flow out. Too many brush strokes and the paint will smear. Don't try to cover in one coat. The paint is thick and may run if you put it on too thick. Two coats minimum, maybe three. I think Lowe's is offering a small sample size now (Valspar brand). Just the right amount for your need. Saves having to buy a quart and only use a tablespoon full.

I have had Cub Yellow Monokote on backorder from Tower Hobbies since early November. As of today 3/4/2010, it is still on backorder. Their site now lists availability in late March. Ha ha...it has been late some month since November. I emailed TopFlite to find out what the problem was and got the answer..."we are waiting on our suppliers". Does anyone really know why this one color has become unavailable?

I'm in a similar boat. I've been waiting on MK Cub Yellow since January, and whenever I call they said it should be available by the end of the month in which I'm calling. Anybody have a clue what's going on?
