Poor Man Setup- U Can Do 60 ?

I have mastered the Tower trainer 60 and love flying the yak on flight simulator.
I want to get in to a U Can Do 60 next . starting with equipment I have OS 65 2 stroke (same hp. as 4 Stroke 91) with 13x4 prop and standard servos( 44 oz . ) all around except the rudder (70 oz .)
I know this is all on the weak side. But money is tight and I am board . Thinking after some flying time I could set the plane up right. Please tell me what to do.<br type="_moz" />

The engine and servos will be fine for most maneuvers. U-Can-Dos are light and nimble and don't need much juice for FAI and Aresti style manuevers (the kind planes with living flesh-and-blood pilots inside do).
The second model is always the shortest lived because most of us think we're hot and believe we've mastered a trainer and so flying in general; and then the reality of a neutral (non-self-correcting) model brings us back to earth. Usually in a pile of balsa. Keep it high to begin with and you'll do well. Most models are fine until they connect with the earth or a tree.

the UCD 60 is a bit of a dog unless its powered up with the max engine, not sure why they recomend the 91 4st as the max because a 120 4st would be better.
why would I say this you might ask, 2 reasons I was assembling mine,a UCD 46, and was on the fence about which engine to use, a fellow club member had his at the field one day with his 61 2stroke and allowed me to fly his a bit, it was awesome the extra power was a huge bonus flew great at 2/3-3/4 power and was a real gentile flyer, with some serious acrobatic potental.
another club member has his UCD 60 with a 91 4st and it was obvious it needed more power, nice flyer but needed more engine for what he was trying to do with it,
I ended up installing a OS61FX in mine,with futaba standard servos 3004's every where except for the rudder, which I used a HD servo.
I ended up selling it, and the next owner turned it into a pile of sticks, but I kept the engine for another project.

you will be fine, will it be the best setup in the world, no, but it will work for what you want it to do.
dont try and hover like crazy to begin with, it will fly light and floaty which is a lot of fun imo. i have a tower fun51 that has a os .40 fp and it has a 1:1 power ratio (hovers at full throttle) its not overpowered by any means but its a ton of fun to fly really slow and do aerobatics. overpowering the heck out of everything isnt nessary, while it can be fun, its not the only way to fly

The U Can Do is one plane that if you fly it fast you can rip the tail feathers off and you'll be out a plane.
It is mainly meant for 3-D or slower aerobatics and not for speed.
The engine must be mounted inverted and some engines are harder to start or harder to keep running in that position. (I'm sure some others will disagree with me on that)
If I were to get one it would be the 46 size with a .61 on it.

Sounds like you'll be fine. I wouldn't be playing DOD trying to hover with it,but that set up will fly it fine. I have a magnum 91 4ST, HS-635's, on 6V, on mine, and she's a blast to fly,it just will pull it out of hover, so stay away from mother earth

Charlie is right, second planes can be short lived.
They do, however, put our egos into check.
When I got my first low wing plane I went back on the buddy box
with my instructor for a couple of flights - it was a real big help.

Just maidened my UCD 60 yersterday with a OS 110a. What a sweet running motor by the way. Still running a little rich for break in, power was adequate for 3D. Once I lean it out I'm sure it will be great. With a 65 on this bird I'm sure it will fly on the wing great, but I doubt it will 3D if that is what you want. Maybe a full throttle hover?

You really need to be careful not to treat this plane like a pattern ship or you will get severe flutter and probably control surface failure. Fly it slow however and this plane is a blast.

Poor man still undecided. My hearts desire is a u can do 60 my head says 46 and your reply is 50\50.<div>

The 46 is a slightly better plane after trying a ST.51 I ended up with a Tower .60 on it. One thing with a UCD any size, if the nose is not pointed up, using more than 1/2 to 3/4 throttle will blow apart the plane with flutter. It is a tough plane but it is not a high speed plane. You need a 90 2 stroke min. for the 60. Fuel milage goes up because you dont need to be at full throttle.
