My Feedback: (1)
I am rebuilding my SSE after a recent crash and had to remove the support cable on the tail. First, what is this called? Second, is it necessary for suport or is it just for realism? Third, if necessary, where can I get it?
I called SIG and they we all gone until Monday.

The tail supports are needed on a SSE. Without them there is a lot of flex in the stabilizers if you put the plane into stressful maneuvers. You don't need to purchase them as they can easily be build from 2-56 rod and solder clevises.

You can fly without them. The question then becomes how long before the tail fails.
I have used them on many planes. I have built them out of music wire and electrical terminals. I solder the terminal on and bend to the angle I need. I harden the balsa where they mount with Ca glue or I build in a hardwood mounting point. You can use a 1/4 or 3/8 inch wood dowel.
