Lets see if I can answer a few of your questions:
1. It is a matter of prefrence. I like NiMh cause I get longer run times out of them for the same siz battery. NiCd's are cheaper though and can be charged faster.
2. 44oz is the minimum torque required so 66oz is even better since the servos will not have to work so hard.
3. Yes your servos will work just fine with the Spektrum rx. Almost all servo leads are the same. Futaba male connectors are the only ones that are different due to their alignment pin on the side. It can be cut off though and used with any of the other servo connectors.

Everyting trublu said is correct. This is agreat flying plane, however its not the plane I would have picked for a first plane. Fisrt, if your flying from a grass field loose the wheel pants. they are very pretty and look great but, the wheels on this plane are too small and the first rough landing will punch a hole in the bottom of the fuse with that pointed front wheel pant. Second, this being a low wing plane you will have to fly this plane to the ground. If you float it in it will tip stall. I don't use the flaps on mine because they give you a false sense of security. Sure they slow the plane, but I feel they slow it too much and set you up to tip stall. It lands great you just have to have a little speed under that wing. Third, the wing landing gear will break where it goes in to the wing. The hole thats drillled it the wing goes into a weiny little balsa block and it will split. I can't believe GP would not have used a hardwood block for this area. It happened to mine and three of my friends. Its not a hard fix, but you have to remove the sheeting on the bottom of the wing in the area of the gear. Please don't get me wrong iI'm not bashing this plane I love it. I wish someone would have told me these items before I flew mine. I have an OS 55AX on mine and it hauls the mail.
