I just downloaded an app for my android cell phone called My Tracks its made by Google and its free. I tracks you path via gps, but the cool part is it graphs your speed and altitude against time and lays both graphs on the same time scale. I tried it while driving and it was right on with my speedometer, and as the car went uphill so did the altitude. I dont know how accurate the altitude was but the speedo was right on. The next time I go to the flying field you can bet I will have a hand full of different props and the phone will be mounted inside my plane.

I can see the insurence clame already
Just don't forget to reballance the plane.
Things to concider... Fire up your plane with the cell phone installed. While holding the plane, have someone call your phone and check for radio interference...

There have been a couple of GPS dataloggers out on the interweb, that cost quite a bit less than the Droid. These are essentially USB dongles that you can power with your receiver battery. You then pull the data off of the logger and can plot it in Google Earth.
Pretty fun stuff.
C
P.S. And of course, since you know your positions and when they were snapshotted, you can always get your speed between them.

Big Brother is watching. The next app will read your mind and report you to the thought police.
It does sound cool, though. Good luck.

beau0090_99- I don't know how much your phone was but I think they make some devices to do that for less than $100.00

Not to get too far off topic, but here in MA our governor has proposed putting a chip in everybody's car so that they can charge us a tax for the mileage we drive. You see, as our cars get too fuel-efficient, they lose income on the gas tax, so they want to start charging another tax for miles driven.
With this app, they could also charge us for miles that we walk. Kinda reminds me of a song...

I wouldn't walk 1000 miles if I was going to be taxed. Man if all these states did something liek that with autos we could take care of the nations deficit instead of it going into the hands of politicians/presidents full of promises and no actions.

Cell phones and RC transmitters are two completely different technologies.

Vibration from a gas or glow engine could cause issues with the phone.

That IDIOT was flying the airplane by watching the lap top screen!
He should be watching the airplane, not the lap top...
It's that sort of behaviour by *^$#%^@ [:@] like that that could cause problems for all of us some day.

Even if the transmission from the phone does not interfere with the plane receiving a signal from the transmitter..........
Vibration from a gas or glow engine could cause issues with the phone.
