OK, I have just put 3 planes together, and I am looking for suggested props for the following combos in 2 & 3 blade...

looking for good performance pattern and sport flying, not looking to do excessive aerobatics.

H9 Hellcat 60, OS 91 4 stroke
H9 Corsair 60, Magnum 91 4 stroke..

your suggestions are greatly appreciated

I have the Magnum .91 and Ifly a 14X6APC on it. Flies very well with that and also pretty good on a 13X8APC. OS .91 should be close to the same.

For the H9 T34 mentor 55ax, you wont find a better prop than a Master Airscrew 11X7 (the S-2 Series !!!!) for the engine-plane combo.
Runner ups: APC 11X6 or 11X7. Maybe a 10X9 may get you more speed if you add the optional retracts but I think the others may prove more fun.

If you add a Jett muffler, You will hear a lot of "What the heck do you got in that?"

A 10x7, 3 blade Master Airscrew works well for ground clearance, climb rate and aero-braking. How many touch & goes can you make in under a minute I still prefer the S-2.

Guys, thanks lots...as far as the chart, I have seen it, however it would seem that nobody at the feild actually follows it, so the practical input is what I was looking for.

my Mentor does have the retracts...

My Mag 91 does well with a MA K-series 14x6. I run it on a Cub thou. For the Corsair you may want the speed of an APC 13x8. JMO.
My 55 is in a H9 Raptor. I use an APC 11x7 on that one. No baffle in the muffler.

The available selection of three blade props is pretty limited unless you're willing to pay for Zinger wood props with replaceable blades. For that reason I'd find a good two blade combination first.

Until you fly the planes you will not know what YOU like on them but '6-pitch' two blades will usually give a decent balance of thrust and speed so you can decide which way to go from there.
For the .91 four strokes I'd start with a 14x6.
One of the guys in our club uses a 12x6 on his four star with a .55AX. That might be a good starting prop for the T34.

Do you already know how to fly RC airplanes? I ask because the thread is in the 'Beginners' forum and the models you listed are definitely not beginner models.

I have been flying now for 3 years, (with wings) and doing well. I have a Cap 580 Great planes with a91 4 stroke, and did most of my flying the last 2 years on an H9 P51 46. I figured this question would come down to a more basic approach, and I cant get a lot of input considering the 3 blade and 4 stroke issue at the club. I will start with the 2 blade props, but was interested in the 3 blade for purely scale appearance, but good flight and performance is more important, a solid fly is what I am looking for first, then experiemnt.

I find that the prop selection seems to be one of the less scientific areas of the system than the rest of the plane, JMO.

I will try the suggestions given, I think understanding the prop to engine and plane relationship is the thing I have been working on longest, and there are so many opinions on this...

Thanks again..

Joe

H9 T34 mentor 55ax
12x7, 11x8, 11x7, 12x6

H9 Hellcat 60, OS 91 4 stroke
14x7, 14x8, 15x6

H9 Corsair 60, Magnum 91 4 stroke..
No experience with this engine but likely similar props to the OS 4-stroke.

I prefer good, high performance props like APC, Graupner, Xoar, etc. All those I suggested are 2-blade.

Utimately it comes down to buying an assortment of props, trying them and deciding what you like best.

Did you have to modify your H9 T-34 to fit the 55ax in the nose?

Ifind Iprefer the Master Airscrew Scimitar on my small (.25 to .40) 2 strokes. It allows the engine to rev up to the powerband quickly. Experimentation is the key.

Sport flying is a very broad term.

For pattern flying you want a larger prop with enoughpitch to pull you through the manoeuvres and thats usually a pitch higher than what you would want for typical sport flying.

Do you want speed, precision, low prop sound (more scale like)

Hi!
For the OS .55 two stroke: 12x5, 12x6, 13x4 all APC or RAM.
For the .91 four strokes in a WW11 fighter plane: 14x6, 15x4 APC and RAM prop.
Avoid all MA props except the Scimitar series!!!
