Big Stik .46
OS AXi on it,,,I took the saito .65 off of it (cheesy sales ploy for the saito here since I cant get to a pic) but I noticed the rudder wheel servo was fidgiting so I took the arm off, well it worked , but was really tight..it acts stripped but looks fine?....its a Hitec HS 645mg,I dont have anything that heavy duty laying around and cant afford to order one (unemployed since xmas),best thing I have is a futaba fp-s148, but I may just go with a drop of thick ca on the arm gears to help, or teflon tape....waddya think kids?....rudder and steering are hardly used...and its the biggest plane in the fleet so, not my favorite anyway. But one of the few ready to go...what would you do?...Rog

Why not just take the 645 apart? It might just have a plastic flashing or burr that can be cleaned or sanded off. Take pix of the gears etc. as you go.... so that you can put it back together easily. Rich

RE: Big Stik .46
is it the servo or the linkages?
being on rudder i wouldnt worry about it to much, if it opperates fine then you should be good to go. metal gear servo's also tend to be harder to turn (feel tighter) than plastic ones.
you dont want the thing sitting their jittering though

I never understood the hype of a mg servo when I rarely see them even in the big stuff. I've got literally 30 planes laying around with 3003 (similar in spec to the F-148 it replaced) servos on the rudder, including .60 - .90 and 1.20 size planes. I pick up used planes all the time, saves me building chores on hot summer days, anyway, I picked up a Zenoah G62 powered 110" wingspan plane (model unknown), and ALL the servos were 3004 Futaba, and the whole plane was well seasoned. All the rules broken and it flies great. I had to replace the aileron servos because the shafts were worn, not the gears. I have bags of metal gear servos acquired over many purchases, never needed them to date. I guess if it came down to investing $500-1000 in a plane, I wouldn't take the chance. But these are used swap meet planes that all cost under $200 each.

RE: Big Stik .46
Well, I'm sending a MG servo to flyinrog, he's a great guy. 100 in/oz. work?
I knife edge just fine. Unless it's pull pull,
I'd think the pushrod would deflect (if it's pushing) before any servo would stop on a .40 size anything.
But I'm going to toss a few MG servos in some larger planes and see what happens. I mess around changing everything else, never gave servos much thought. Thanks.
