Default Perplexed over Hitec's Electron 6 +ive Shift RX

Hi ya'll,

I've been confused over Hitec's Electron 6 Rx lately. Here is the story, I'm using JR's FM Radio XF421EX with a frequency of 72.810 at Channel 51. The Receiver I'm using is hitec electron 6 positive shift with an Xtal of 72.810, works great and I love it. I wanna buy another receiver as I have already bought me Hitec's Xtal 72.810 single conversion and it is on it's way to me.

I have seen many electron 6 RX and many of them are positive shift and have channel 15 on it and frequency starts from 72.080 or something, so my question is this, that if I buy any of that RX naturally without Xtal and as soon as I put the Xtal which I bought of 72.810, is it gonna work? I'm gonna paste some links of those Xtals here, so you may have better idea that are they gonna work with my JR radio regardless of the frequency. According to me they have to be positive shift and as soon as I put the Xtal in it of the same frequency I'm currently using, it should start working. One more thing what exactly those channels are like 51, 52 and so on
Here are the links for the RX I wanna buy.

Thank ya'll in advance.

I am confused over your question...but I'll try.....postive and negative shift......well there is a frequency, say 72.810, there is an upper and lower side band to that freq...the upper sine wave and the lower sine wave....or positive shift for the upper and negative shift for the lower......It is my understanding that not only do you have to be on the same freq but on the same sideband...(positive and negative shift).....The good news is that some receivers are shift selectable with a little jumper wire on the side of the receiver and some receivers will work with either postive or negative shift.
The channels 51, 52, etc are different frequencies.....in your picture of the chrystals one is channel 36, 72.510. the other is channel 52, 72.830...these 2 chrystals won't work together....not only do the chrystals have to be the same freq one has to be for the transmitter the other for the receiver....
Hope this helps...Good flyin

Hi ya'll,

I have already bought me Hitec's Xtal 72.810 single conversion and it is on it's way to me.

This will not work. The electron is a dual conversion Rx and requires a dual conversion crystal. Single conversion crystals are not the same as dual conversion crystals and are not interchangable. Use only a Hitec dual conversion crystal (blue stripe on the pull tab) that is the same channel # as your Tx. This can be full band from #11 to #60, there is no hi/lo band considerations with that RX.

While many say that the signal is FM, it really is not. It is frequency shift keying where, when using positive shift, the center frequency is increased by about 5 killocycles for a data pulse "one" and at the center frequency for a "zero". If the transmitter is on negative shift, the data pulse is about 5 killocycles below center frequency for the "one".
The difference between dual conversion and single conversion is that, for dual conversion, the receiver crystal is about 11 megacycles different from the transmitted frequency while for single conversion, the receiver crystal is 455 Killocycles different than the transmitted frequency.

For the 72 MHz band, here is a picture showing the frequency and the "channel" that goes with it.

You can remove the channel 15 crystal from the receivers you linked and replace them with the appropriate channel 51 crystal.

The channel 51 dual conversion crystal you need for the Hitec Electron receiver is http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/759951.asp
There are lots of places to buy them. The Hitec manufacturer part number is 6677251

Hitec dual conversion receiver crystals have a blue tag. Their single conversion crystals have a green tag and they will not work in the Electron receiver.

The crystal picture I put here they are not the frequency I'm using, my frequency is 72.810. I guess I'm gonna go ahead and buy me Hitec electron 6 positive shift which I'm already using with my TX and working fine. I don't think I have put down something so difficult which would make some user confused. My simple question is if I buy a positive shift Hitec Receiver either single conversion or dual conversion, the difference of which I don't know would it work with my Xtal or not?. I guess I have to experiment myself, my 72.810 single conversion crystal is on it's way all I gotta do is buy me another receiver of hitec positive shift and then put them all together and test it if it's working or not. If it does not work, then I'm gonna return it and get another one.

Thank ya'll

As you have been told above the Hitec Electron 6 is a DUAL conversion receiver and Only will work with Hitec DUAL Conversion Chrystals.

WHOA, Such an emphatic tone and apparently in very strong way it is used, it looks like used over here that I'm being told off for not understanding by rcjetflyer. Would you mind telling me which tone have you used in replying back to me in this message?

post #1 picture electron receiver clearly shows "dual conversion". in following post you were told the differences between positive and negative shift and single and dual conversion receivers. Both John and Carrellh told you that only a dual conversion crystal would work, yet you went ahead and ordered a single conversion crystal. Armody you have been on RCU for 5 years and I have followed your situation where you went back to the middle east and are now back in Texas, you even have posted over 6 times the post I have, and you know whose advice can be trusted. Its OK to ask questions, but when they're answered don't go tell people you are going to do the opposite.

Thanks Ray for your advice

The links I posted of ebay here were for the example and of course crystals picture are also used as an example. I have understood it that single conversion is gonna work with single conversion and dual with the dual conversion. Before I started the topic, and I did not ask the guy is it single conversion or dual, upon getting my receipt from them I saw it was single conversion which is my fear and I have been clarified it's not gonna work.

I'm gonna buy me same Hitec Electron 6 Positive shift dual conversion and gonna get the dual conversion crystal. As I've been using it before and I would use it again.

Leadsolo,

I was using Hitec Electron 6 Positive shift Dual conversion FM Receiver with 72 Mhz Frequency and the Xtal or Crystal was 72.810 Mhz Channel 51 Air. As far as positive shift or negative shift is concerned so I did some research and found out that positive shift is compatible with my JR and I also confirmed it with my LHS (Local Hobby Shop) guy not a big deal. As far as glitches are concerned what exactly are these glitches causing? Are these causing your plane's control surfaces flutter or what? Or something else.

My Hangar 9's P51 Mustang crashed and I was using Hitec's Electron 6 Dual conversion 72 Mhz receiver, no problem with it, no glitch nothing, it was my mistake the plane crashed, and receiver popped-outta plane and the cover snapped off. It was still working find and I got an advice by RCKen, to send it to Hitec's technical departement to get it checked, cos working on the ground does not constitute it would work in the air as well, it may fail, so I have sent it to Hitec tech department, they have received it and I'd get the response this week or next week. In order for you to understand more better, I'm gonna put down 2 links for you go through those threads and you would understand very well. Also explain what kinda glitches are you encountering.

This is about Electron 6 http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_84...tm.htm#8423697

This is about Supreme IIS
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9677331/tm.htm This receiver and my lack of information caused my Escapade to crash.

I hope it would help and of course a lot of senior people would post something to help you out, but do go through these threads you would get a lot of answers.

One thing I also read that Electron 6's negative shift Rx works with Futaba. JR's is working +ive shift. Many senior flyers would provide you great advices including moderators. I don't think I've ever seen marking of positive shift or negative shift, try google the image of Electron 6 and of course it's been replaced by Neutron 6 now.

Best of Luck

Thanks Armody !! Anywz, the glitches i experienced caused me GP Cap 580 to either roll or pitch down suddenly - SCARRRRRY ... especially while i'z doin a moderately fast low pass and later comin in for landing - almost lost me ol'faithful !! Me and some buddies triple-double checked all connections (no flutter) then had few more flights after the glitchin first startd, just to be sure, but ....... same problem. []

I've since changed to an auto-shift Corona - No More in-flight Problems thereafter !!

It's Just that i'm Perplexed and losing sleep trying to figure out what happened - It's definitely Rx related coz i've had 12 flights with the Corona and All's PERFECT - Yet I still can't tell if my Electron 6 is +ve or -ve shift .... coz there's no label/marking/code on it whatsoever [&o]

Leadsolo,

One of the great news that you changed the receiver and your problem's solved. I bought Hitec's Supreme IIS on Ebay, I think that I was handed a bad receiver, which caused a lot of flutter and ultimately my plane crashed. Send it over to Hitec tech department, all they did is re-tuned/ re-alligned it and told me now you can use it without worry. I believe 'em. Now Electron 6 which I was using with my Mustang and crashed due to my mistake never had problems not a single one, I used it previously not a single problem. I have sent my Electron 6 to Hitec's tech department and waiting on their verdict. Good thing you did change the RX and your problem is solved. If you are using JR your receiver is Positive shift, as negative shift won't work with your TX. I also started a thread about dual or single conversion and learned that if the receiver is dual conversion Xtal should be dual conversion as well, if receiver is single conversion which does not have extended range Xtal should be single conversion. I'm sure you were using dual conversion Xtal with your receiver and the same frequency. My frequency of JR radio 5 channel XF421EX is 72.810 Channel 51, so I use the Same dual conversion receiver and same dual conversion Xtal with the same frequency 72.810.

My best suggestion is for you is to send your Electron 6 to Hitec's technical department, have them check it what's going on with it and do write them regarding your problem and what you experienced while using it or on flight. Send it over to their department with the description of your problem, and you would get the right answer. Unfortunately now I have no plane to fly[&o][&o][&o]. I'm waiting for the mid or end of june to have a plane, until then nothing[:@]

Good Luck.

Mody,
Since this got bumped to the top, I was wondering if you still have the single conversion crystal you mentioned at the beginning of the thread?
If yes, the Mini 6S http://www.hitecrcd.com/products/rec...z/mini-6s.html is listed as a single conversion full range receiver. It is autoshift so it will work with positive or negative shift transmitters.

Leadsolo,
For the US market, the part number tells us which shift a receiver is made for:
25272 Electron 6 for Hitec/Futaba, Negative shift
25372 Electron 6 for JR/Airtronics, Positive shift

Hello Carrell,

I bought the dual conversion Xtal for my Hitec's Supreme IIS FM Receiver. It was for my Escapade, and as I started a thread about this Supreme IIS, a lot of things came up and why my plane fluttered and ultimately crashed. I had to send this receiver back to Hitec's tech department, they sent it back to me and told me that your receiver was re-aligned/ re-tuned and you can use it without any hesitation. The other plane was last and only P51 Mustang PTS which got crashed due to my stupid mistake. I had to send the receiver of that plane again to Hitec, it was Electron 6 never had a single problem as the crash was so hard, the receiver's bottom cover snapped off, and Ken told me to send it to Hitec's so that if there is any problem they may check it and fix it.

Anyway, I have no plane to fly and Thanks again Carrell, I have seen that receiver. I loved Electron 6 never failed and now Neutron 6 is out. I'm waiting to buy me Mustang again may be RTF or ARF as I have everything for the plane what I need.

Keep y'all posted.

Awesome - Thanks Carrellh !! Least now i know

The 2 units still in their boxes show 25272 (i.e Futaba/Hitec @ -ve shift) whereas i don't hv the packing for the others (no numbers labelled on the RX units), so can't check these.

I bought all of em from the same hobbyshop (i called e guy today and he insists they're ALL Auto-shift .... Grrrr !!), so i'm guessing it's highly likely they're all -VE Shift.

I've unplugged those from my planes which had em (GP CAP580, WM Extra 330L, CMP Quest 50 & TT Illusion) since i almost lost my CAP.

Ah sure as heck ain't gonna fit those Rx which i Know are 25272 and test em to see if the same symptoms show-up - Ain't got no crash test dummies in my hanger [:-]

Guess i'll just hv to buy me a CH63 Futaba Tx to use with these [:@]

Funny thing is, nevermind the glitches, how come they all dialled-in with my JR Tx previously ? I mean, how come they powered up and allowed me some flights in the first place ? With opposite shifts, shouldn't they not function at all ? Hmmmmmmmm ..... []

Anywayz, THANKS AGAIN Carrellh !!!!
