The threaded wood actually works very well. I also thought it would tear out but it does not. Tap the hole to cut the threads. Wick thin CA into the threads to harden the wood. Let it cure completely. Run the tap through to clear any excess CA.

If you ever do decide to drill out the holes and install blind nuts you should still use the nylon wing screws. Most of the kits I have seen, whether they use blind nuts or threaded wood, use a nylon screw with a big head to hold the wings. a SHCS (socket head cap screw) would need a large washer under the head to spread the load a bit.

Hi!
I use threaded wood mounts in most of my Q-500 and Sport 40 racers (pylon racers) and other planes too. Much better than blind nuts and much easier to make.

I've used 1/4-20 blind nuts with nylon screws for years....great combo...as a matter of fact, that is what holds the wing on my 100mph plus Hangar 9 Mustang 60 size.

I use a 1/4-20 Tap into the wood blocks and reinforce the threads with CA...like these guys have been saying. I personally think it's the best way to go, but if you do want to use blind nuts....make sure you use regular steel bolts to SEAT the blind nut. You want it to be well seated, and you want it straight in the bore. You won't be able to achieve this with the nylon bolt. After it's seated, your good to go with your nylon bolts.

That is what I have in my Escapade. ARF came that way, and locking nuts for wings are nylon ones.

Thanks
