Default First time priming a cowl - ?

I am now experimenting with painting a cowl for the first time in preparation for when my Funtana cowl comes in. Pictured is my test cowl after 4 light coats of primer. Should I continue to add coats until I cant see any of the original details/color?

don't forget to lightly sand with some 300 - 400 grit sandpaper between each coat.
