IMO a Pulse is a level 3 and you might want to look at a level 2 like an Escapade or a Super Sportster to get used to a more forgiving low wing plane before going to this one.

The Pulse is an excellent second plane . I'm not sure what an E=Flight Apprentice is , if it's a lite foamy , then there well be a huge difference between it and the Pulse. You might be O.K with some buddy box time . But if your going it on your own , you may want to pick up a cheap High wing trainer and then move to the Pulse.
You can swap the gear from the trainer to the Pulse to keep the cost down .

The Pulse was my 2nd plane. I found it to be a fun plane to step up to. Go for it.

Pulse XT 40 is an excellent choice for second plane! The only thing I would do while learning to get a "handle" on the Pulse XT is get someone to assist you with setting the throws/rates and even possibly using a buddy box if your first plane is a really mild plane (I am not familiar with the apprentice).

I purchased a Pulse XT 40 after I had already flown a big Stick and another off-brand sport plane that were not as forgiving as the Pulse XT. I had a much harder time with that sport plane. It was too fast for me and did not fly like my trainer so I struggled with it.

Once I bought my Pulse I could not believe how graceful and trainer-like the plane is. The plane is so docile when setup on low rates that is floats better than my Alpha trainer and yet, has great ability to do some limited acrobatics. I even boosted it up to an OS 55AX and I really have a great setup now and it is one of my favorite all around planes.

Good flying to you

Apprentice is a larger 4 channel trainer. It is foam, but is probably close to a .25 trainer in size and it is a full 4 channel plane.

If you can handle the Apprentice OK, then the you should do OK with the Pulse, too. Definitely get someone at your club to look it over and maybe even dothe maiden for you and help you for your first few flights. it will be faster and more maneuverable than your Apprentice.

I have not flown the Apprentice, but have flown similar sized electric foamies and own a Pulse. The foamies are very light and can be plopped down on the runway without damage. The Pulse will fly heavier and faster, feel less floaty, and needs to be set down with more finesse because it will have more momentum behind it and it's landing gear aren't as rugged as trainers with their spring wire gear. Also, being a tail-dragger,it can ground loop, and will want to weather-vane into a cross-wind worse than a high wing with trike gear. So I'd suggest making sure you are very good with the Apprentice and can really wring it out before jumping to the Pulse(especially shooting touch n goes and being comfortable with using rudder). I've been flying several years, and still enjoy wringing out all the aerobatics I can from my trainer. I enjoy the Pulse too,but it keeps me on my toes more on the takeoff and landings. It's not hard, just different. On my first landing with it,I ground looped it and bent the gear. Learned from my mistake, fixed it at the field and it's been good ever since(although I did replace the axles early on). If you're looking for more excitement, the Pulse will probably give you that, but if you haven't done alot of aerobatics with the Apprentice,It may still be able to teach you some things.
