Default Need Help Identifying this plane.

Hello all,
My neighbor who was recently divorced gave me this plane that was given to her ex. I'm new (beginner) to the hobby so my RC knowledge is limited. There is no markings on the plane so I have no idea of the make or model. I believe it was a kit because there was no control horns installed, no control rod openings, no power switch, etc... It has a 63" wingspan. Also what engine do you think would work well in her. Keep in mind I'm a beginner with my only experience being on .46 size engines. Thanks for your input!

Looks like it might be a Top Flite "Elder"?

Not sure about the Elder as the rear of the Elder between the trailing edge of the wing and stabs is just framed and not covered like this one. It might be an ARF of some sort as well. Good Luck, Dave

I have a positive I.D. on your mystery aircraft. It is NOT a Top flight Elder, very similar but not an Elder. This is a model sold by Horizon Hobby, shown in thier"spring/summer 2004" "Air Time" catalog on page 17. They called it a "SuperFlying Models Eindecker .46 ARF". It is pictured on the same page as four other "Hanger 9" brand war birds however this is not a Hanger 9 product but rather a lower priced line of ARF's that they sold at that time (priced at $109.99 in this book). Recommended engines are .35-.46 2 stroke or .40-.60 4 stroke. They say it has a fiberglass cowl (Elder will have a built up balsa cowl), a wingspan of 63" (Elder is 65"), and it looks like it may have either fiberglass or plastic wing tips ( Elder will be built up balsa). Elder is a balsa built up KIT only, and this is a ARF. They list it as a "skill level 2" requiring previous flight experience. If you have never flown anything before you can not fly this model without help. With an instructor and a buddy box you may be able to learn on this airplane but not by yourself! Get help and this should be a nice fun flyer. Go it alone and you will turn it into a pile of sticks in......oh... i'd say.... 10 to 15 seconds. Good luck and good landings.

Just for comparison sake, here is the picture of what you DON'T have. I changed the engine for a more upright position, hating inverted engine installations. Also did without the nose treatment and gave it more a stick finish. Almost done.

By an incredible coincidence, I don't have one of those either.

I was genuinely confused by what you meant but supposed you were referencing something you'd posted earlier. I just snatched at the chance to be frivolous (as is my wont).
Both models look pretty although I'm not a great fan of "muddy cream". Glad to see you have roundels, and of the only proper colouration, on yours!
