Default rx

I have a plane that I fly on fm. The tx is a 4 channel airtronics VG400. The rx was an airtronics 92777 and it says dual conversion narrow band fm72mhz.
Can I use a different brand rx? What do I have to know to make sure a different rx willwork with the tx? By the way its all blue plug Z connectors.

Thanks for any help in advance

I probably should have said one of my sons tripped over the rx wire and even after soldering back together The rx is not trustworthy.

This is one of the Hitec receivers previously mentioned. It will work with JR/Airtronics (positive shift) radios as well as Hitec/Futaba/Tower transmitters (negative shift). The Hitec Supreme IIs is also one of the finest 72Mhz FM receivers ever made.

I've also flown the GWS RD8SL for a number of years:

The GWS RD8SL is also an 8-channel dual conversion full range FM receiver. It is shift selectable to work with JR/Air radios or Futaba/Tower/Hitec transmitters, also.

Hobby King stocks the RD8SL 72Mhz FM receiver and sells them for $24.95. The last time I bought GWS dual conversion crystals, I ordered them from www.allerc.com at a very reasonable price.

Good luck and good shopping!

I use Hitec "POSITIVE" shift receivers with my Airtronics and JR radios. Particularly the Electron 6. It is light, dual conversion, reliable and inexpensive. Good luck.

If the receiver says duel conversion, you must use a duel conversion crystal. THe frequincy must match ( aircraft fm receivers in the USA are 72mhz, and I would only use the sam manuifacurers crystal as the receiver. Tower Hobbys (www.towerhobby.com) carrys a lot of receivers, and matching crystals, so you can go to their site and search for your receiver and then see what crystal goes with it. You can call them and see what they have for your setup , too. Oh Yeah, what ever channel your TX transmits on is what channel your RX should be.
Last, resoldering an antennae won't hurt anything if it's just broken in two ,,,just do a range check before flying, as you should every flying session anyway.

mikekosatka, thats what we thought and on the range check we had some twitching and stuff so i just dont trust it. Plus im not sure if it matters but the wire inside was barely even copper anymore. It looked burned or something.

If all you did is trip over the aerial wire then all you really need to do is confirm that the aerial is soldered to the PCB properly and that there are no hidden breaks in the wire under the insulation (use an ohm-meter to measure from the PCB to the end of the aerial. short circuit good, anything else is bad).Any piece of wire will do (within reason) it just needs to be the right length.
I've had a 5 channel Futaba Challenger Rx since 1983 that's on it's 3rd or 4th aerial after being rescued from the woodpile left after crashes various. It's still fine.
Of course, I work in electronics, so I have a bit more test gear than most modellers, but I've never had to re-trim or resolder anything but the aerial. After a crash, I bin the Rx crystal though.
