Actually, I also have a Futaba 6EX and it's not confusing at all....not to me anyhow. But, I haven't found any reason to actually use it yet. My 4 channels are working just fine.

While I have and enjoy my DX7, and am looking to get a DX8 soonish, the DX7 has been reasonably confusing to set up at times. I'm quite technical (I've worked as a software engineer for many years), yet the mixings of channels had me scratching my head and using google a lot. The DX7 manual certainly didn't help as it could have.

Actually the futaba is known for being easier than the spektrums to program.

I mean I use Spektrum and I find it pretty straight forward. I don't find it hard to program. Of course on the other hand, if I used Futaba, I'm sure I would consider it to be user friendly. So which is which? Guess it's up to the individual to determine.

The DX8 uses the same style data entry as the DX6i. My own personal experience is the DX6i is a lot easier to program then my DX7, so the DX8 should be a nice step up on the programming side.

All:
Well I called Horizon today and asked for pricing and availability. The response was no price as yet and no availability dates either. Seems like the radio has been unveiled but not available to the general public. I sure like the radio as I fly Spektrum only and it will be a nice addition to my fleet once it is available. I on the other hand will wait to see how some of the initial batch does before I pull the trigger.
I also am a fan of the Hi-Tech 9 channel with telemetry.

I also heard that JR Radios are very easy to setup. I would considered getting the DX8 or the new JR 9. I would get the new JR 11 just for the awesome looks but it's $750

JR 11 is no doubt Awesome, Spektrum is also JR but I think JR is only continued in Japan, in USA Spektrum is here and some high-end radios are still JR. I read somewhere on the net it was a wild guess of that person that JR DX8 is going to be $450 +. Lets wait and see

The price in the UK is about 400 pounds with telemetry receiver. For comparison the DX7 Package with AR 7000 receiver is 239 pounds. Most likely it will be a pounds for dollar deal making it about $400

Will the DX8 make my planes fly any better than the Futaba 4YF 4 channel radios I already use and get for only $104 for the complete outfit after my discounts from tower? I'd like to know.
If it will make my plane fly better, I might order me a DX8.

Make you're planes "fly better?" Only you can do that buddy....
with a 4 channel plane it will be the same AIRPLANE with a 30 dollar 4 channel radio set up like a used Jr Quattro... or with a 1200 dollar set up. Yea you can put in some mixing/expo/dual rates, but if you're flying a basic four channel I'm guessing trainer type plane.. all that stuff will not do much for you...
once you get into the big boys with flaps/landing gear or giant scale models then yeah you're going to need a pretty high end set up... I fly Spektrum DX7 and have absolutely no complaints... It can fly anything from a slow stick to a turbine with no problems and you'll probably never outgrow the DX7. I just got it and before the DX7 I flew with Futaba 6EX which was great for me for the past 6 years... but now have upgraded to 2.4 with the DX7.
I personally love the 2.4 now because there is no hassle of searching for the correct receiver/crystal/channel... just grab a Spektrum receiver, bind, and fly! I'd say if you're a beginner yeah pick up a nice set up just so it can grow with you, but no it's absolutely NOT required to be a great pilot... I still have my Avistar on a basic 4 channel radio... no digital anything, not 2.4, just a basic 72 mhz 4 channel radio and I have a blast with that plane!
