Default Hitec Servo

G`Day
Am wanting to install the Hitec-82MG Micro into the wing of my 60 size P-51 as separate servos for the Ailerons. Can these servos beused on there side rather then standing as the room in my wing is limited. Or will this put too much strain on the gears or the proper functioning of the servo?
Thanks

For servos you can mount them on their sides or "upright", you can mount them in just about any position and they will function properly.

However, in your case this servo is much too small for use in a 60 sized aircraft. It is designed for smaller aircraft, park flyers, gliders, and the like. If you put in a bigger craft such as your P-51 you may well find the servo will fail in flight.

Hope this helps

Ken

Just about any standard servo will do for this plane.

The problem with the smaller servos in the bigger planes isn't the torque as much as the small motors. Your putting a strain on the motors so they won't last as long. I have used the HS 81s in small race planes ailerons with good luck, no failures to date but these planes only get flown once a month for three 8 lap races and they aren't moving the controls very far, just leaning the plane over a little. If room in your wings is a problem they do make tapered servos that are smaller just for that problem. You can look at servos on Tower or Servo City web sites to get an idea of what is out there in servo land.

Does the manual give servo recommendations? Does it have pictures of the mounting process?
Here are links to some 'thin wing' servos if you do have to get something special

Get yourselves Hitec 475HB if you need to get Hitecs only. If you can get Futaba, suggest to get 3010
