Sounds like you are may be too lean. Try richening it up some and see what happens. If the problem is at idle then richen the low speed needle, if it is at high RPM, richen the high speed needle. If you adjust one, it could affect the other slightly as well so always recheck.

If that isn't the issue then look at the tank and lines. Is it a gasoline or glow engine? Either way, I would make sure your clunk is set up properly in the tank. If it is a gasoline engine, make sure the tank is vented to atmosphere properly. If it is a glow engine, make sure the lines are connected right with the clunk line going to the carb and the vent line going to the muffler and no pinholes or cuts in the lines.<br type="_moz" />

Gasoline or glow fuel? Gas carbs have a diaphragm pump that can weaken or fail.

Or, it's just overlean lean whether gas or glow.

Also, how long before it fails and how does it fail? All at once or gradually. When an engine stops suddenly it's usually an overly lean prolem.

sounds like a pump issue.

is it properly choked when you try to run it?

In the Gasser section of the forum is a complete guide to Gasser newbies. run through that and check if youhave done everything required.

The early DLE 30 engines with the side carb sometimes had a problem of quitting at idle

Check the pulse hole, and also the pump diaphram and pin.

At worst you can purchase a new carb from Hobby King for about $20-30.00.

You could later rebuild the old carb with a rebuild kit, without worry.
