SIG SE question
Hello all,
I have just started building a SIG Somethin' extra and have a question about it. Is the supplied easy hinges good enough to use or is it preferable to install real hinges. Anything else worth knowing? I plan on installing a 0.46 TT or OS FX engine. Also I have read the list of tips that pops up when doing a search on Google. Thanks for any comments RCfun |

The hinges are fine. Add 1" to the rudder if you want to do KE, and don't be afraid to move the CG back.

SIG SE question
The hinges are fine.
I beefed up the tail wheel area and added a Sullivan tail wheel. I did not like the way the kit one was connected to the rudder. I also beefed up the landing gear area, just in case. About the rudder, what i did was add counter on top of the rudder. I also used new axles instead of the screws they provided. I have a TT Pro 46 on it and it has plenty of power. I also added a stringer under the wind sheeting next to the root. The sheathing is rather thin. I did not want to put a thumb through it. The kit was a great kit to build and it is a lot of fun to fly. Bill Check out the link for pics. My Sig SE |

Also, try a search. You will get tons of hits about the Sig SE.

SIG SE question
The hinges are fine to use. Used them on my modified kobra that goes 128mph. I didn't modify mine to much just beefed up the landing gear area. I can get a little climb from hover w/ my tt 46 and a 12.25 x 3.75 prop. I wouldn't suggest the pushrods that come with it though. Or the plastic clevices (did I spell that right?)

I am also putting a sub spar of 1/8 inch sq spruce between the spar and leading edge top and bottom. The sheeting is too easy to put your fingers through. That should help.

SIG SE question
Thanks all for the replies and the pointers to more information. I did not add a reforcing spar under the sheeting of the wing. However I soaked the inside of the sheeting with thin CA which seemed to make it quite regid. As I have allready built one wing when posting I did not have the option to add a spar. I hope the sheeting with CA is strong enough and I will take great care.
It seems like a very nice kit to build. When I got the kit some of the balsa part where broken from what seemed transport. I emailed SIG and they quickly sent me replacement parts at no cost to me (I live in Europe). Had them 3 days after I sent my first email. Great service. Best regards RCfun |
SIG SE question
RCfun, I added the sub spar under the sheeting not for when I pick up the plane, but for when others do. I had a friend pick up my shoestring the other day and put his finger through the fuse. What a pain eh!
