Solved: Good first plane?
I am currently a car person but living half an hour from the track makes the car just inconvenient. I am probably going to sell my evader and get a plane.
The budget is $100 for an rtf... I would like 2.4ghz and electric. Im gonna start in my yard which is 3/4 of an acre and then take it to the park. And thanks in advance! |
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
the only plane i have had experience with is the ember 2 rtf. i would recommend it mainly because i started getting the hang of it on the third flight and i have never flown a plane before the ember either.....

RE: Solved: Good first plane?
Consider an electric glider if you will have no instructor.
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
hmm....im not sure. i have never heard of that company. but in that price you would be better off getting this IMO. but i really don't know since i am just a beginner as you know :D<div><div>http://www.amazon.com/Hobbyzone-Cham...935&sr=8-1</div></div>
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
Whats the difference?<div>Ive flown a plane before, but it was a cheap 2 channel..</div>
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
I suggested a glider because they can fly slower and recover by themselves easier than a small foamy.
It is all about the wingspan and the weight to wing area ratio. http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/a...rticle_id=1322 There are also cheap copies of the Multiplex Easy Star, which fly very well. Consider also the compatibility of the transmitter with your future airplanes. As you know, you will be very much married to the receivers of the brand you choose for the transmitter. Here is a two-in-one: http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/a...rticle_id=1288 |

RE: Solved: Good first plane?
oh okay. gliders are quite large though....
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
As for the glider, i like the idea, but they are more..
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
In 3/4 acre, forget anything bigger or faster than the Ember, and that's on no wind days. If you have a nice wide open park available, the GWS Slowstick is a very easy plane to fly and is easy to fix too. With some smart shopping, you could have it RTF for about $100.

Im still looking around...

RE: Solved: Good first plane?
Get a Champ. I think they are $89. Look for it at horizon hobby
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
oh yeah!!! i forgot all about the champ....[:@] take a look at that.
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
Champ does look good...
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
i have heard that it is good too.
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
Consider the slowbipe for getting started.
http://www.slowbipe.com/ I've been able to get several of my adult kids flying with it quite easily. |
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
Once i sell my evader i will get the ember 2. I like it from what ive seen and i see that you can upgrade.<div>Thanks for all the responses!</div>
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
I have the parkzone ember and learned to fly on it. It is a good beginner plane. The only thing is that if you plan to fly it in your backyard, there has to be NO wind. The slightest amount will toss it around. I ended up just flying it at my indoor club meets. Later on I got the ultra micro j-3 Cub. That can take a little more wind (relative to 0 mph).
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
Yeah, i figured that 1oz wont hold up to wind... I will fly outside, but only on calm days. If i drop a leaf and it only moves a tiny bit from the wind, ill fly...
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
yeah it would be good to fly in calm conditions, but i was just out flying in 1-3 mph breezes, and i think i messed up my elevator.
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
How did you mess it up?
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
i think it got messed up when i hit the side of my house, and then it spun and then the back of it hit the ground first.
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
Ouch...
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
yeah....
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
i'm loving the champ. tough little bird.
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
i heard it was. and from the videos i have seen, it looks like that too.
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
So should i get the champ or Ember 2.
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
i think if you are going to also be flying in your yard, the ember 2 would be better.
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
Thats what i was thinking...
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
I'm a plane noob, been racing cars for over 20 years.
i just got a champ yesterday, what a blast! tough as nails and easy as pie to fly. first flight, 12 minutes, nocrashes. second flight 15 minutes, 2 crashes, nothing broken. 3rd flight 14 minutes, 3 loops and alot of fun. killer little plane! |
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
sounds like fun! but i think since he is going to fly in his yard at first, then the ember 2 would be a better choice since its a slower flying plane.
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
Can the ember still fly fast in full throttle?
|
RE: Solved: Good first plane?
you can fly the champ pretty darn slow, but still have the power when you need it.
it takes off @ full throttle, but can cruise at less the 1/2 throttle. either way both are great entries into rc flight for sure. |
