Geared to Direct Drive
I have a quick question:
Can I take the geared drive off of my 400 sized electric motor. It is going to be reused from a soarstar to a smaller plane (called for a 380, but i didn't have one). Also, would a 5x2.5 prop be too small. Is there any negative to a small prop on an electric (other than less performance)? Thanks. |
RE: Geared to Direct Drive
The motor will try to turn at it's KV rating. If the prop is "smaller", more than likely it will approach that RPM point better than a larger one. It won't exceed that RPM if that's what concerns you.
If the motor bolts on and the gears match, I can't see any downside to it. CGr. |

RE: Geared to Direct Drive
From what I read, after looking for information on this comparison, they basically are the same motor and, basically have the same specifications. As I said, if the "bolt pattern" and gears match up with the gearbox, then go ahead and use it.
