A couple things:
Nothing wrong with hand reamers, just make sure it has the right step size. Metric or inch. #1 Ream from the back/engine side of the prop. (as already mentioned) #2 Hold the ream tool stationary and rotate the prop. It'll be more likely to have a hole that's square to the mounting surface that way. #3 Balance the prop last. |

Looks like your going to have to get this mini-lathe so you can make prop bushings and other things like 1/4 scale gun barrels. :)

Your problem was removing the lip. Most likely you reamed too deep to get through the hub all of the way due to a short "step" on the reamer. Next time ream until the reamer "step" just barely touches the hub and then turn the prop over and ream from the opposite side.

Towers Reamer is only good for 6 props than u buy Great planes reamer and its good for 600 props.

You may want to have a look at your drill press' spindle to see if the ''wobble'' came from it rather than the reamer. When you say drill press we all think a nice new one but for all we know you could be using this one and there have been lots of opportunities for the spindle to get bent in the last 150 years. I've used one of those..... A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away....... Back when I was a kid at home.:D |

ORIGINAL: N1EDM While we're on the subject, there used to be a prop balancer that would let you balance the prop in a jig to find the true CG. You would then drill it out with a reamer. It's out of production now. I think it was a Robart or a Master Airscrew. Has anyone used one of these, and have you seen one for sale?
