Here is some transparent red Monokote. Looks beautifull when the sunlight passes thru it. I can say i've ever seen one covered in clear Monokote, but that would definately be different!....Gene

But can you see the plane 300 + feet away and stay oriented???????????

RE: Transparent Monokote

You can use the transparent yellow and you won't see the seams where the two pieces meet and overlap.

Great stuff.

A few years ago I built a display plane and used " clear " covering on one side and different colors and trim on the other side. Looked neat and did the job of showing off the construction . I never had any problem seeing it going either dirrection and I got a lot of comments about it. ENJOY !!! RED

I love the transparents and to this day the vast majority of my ships have used many variations of the color transparents. The Monocoat clear is wonderful also for side windows and thats what I use on most of my stuff.

As far as clears go I only have two with about fifty/fifty clear. The oldest is my Kerswap and has been flying on wheels or pop bottles for about fifteen years now and is not hanger a queen, powered originally by an OS .20 and currently by an MVVS 1.5 diesel. The other airplane is an old PTE modified a bit and its about 13 years old, powered originally by an old car can motor and a six cell 1700 nicd pack but currently with a small outrunner with a 11.1volt Lipo.

John

Oh ya forgot my Airco Aero Nine built it about ten years ago or thereabouts and it a replica of my first successful RC ship back about 59' It has an all clear wing.

Hey Frank, what is that plane in your first pic with the swept wings? I like those stick looking things with the wing swept. Eureka has a Hooker short kit for $100.00 that looks really interesting.

For lack of a better name, it's a sweeper 60. My design. Weights almost 5 lbs and powered by a O.S. Max .61 SF. It's as fast as it looks.

Have done all the clear Monocoats and love them but the only thing that is missing is clear black. Is that an oxy moron or what? So what would you call that, clear smoke maybe?

I have never used the clear Monokote before, but after seeing some of the pictured models covered partially with clear has me thinking!:D I like it!....Gene

For anyone building a night flyer, insert LEDs before covering and cover with transparent monocoat. They light up beautifully.

Here are the simple side windows of clear Monocoat, They look great and generally far better that resesed plastics or glued on sheet plastic.

The trick is to cover the areas where the window bays are with clear monocoat then use an opaque layer of monocoat over this with previously cut out window frames with a blade before the opaque monocoat is appliedl. The cutouts are best done with the monocoat backing removed and on a pane of glass with a nunber eleven blade.

Thanks Gene, Here are the windows on the Quad Kaydet done the same way with just a variation in the window shape cutout in the opaque overlay to give a different look or characture look.

Great tip on the windows, John!

What about painting the bare airframe, then covering with clear Monokote?
Just a thought.[size=1]

If you look at the old pictures of the Hobby Lobby Telemaster from the 80's with the good looking woman by it, it looked like that wood framework was painted white and covered with clear monocoat.

I have covered several planes withtransparentcolored MK over the years. One of the coolest was one that I used yellow on the bottem of the wing and tail and blue on the top surfaces. When the sun would show through the wing and tail with the plane in a bank it would turn green.

The very first RC plane I saw fly was at the river bottoms of the Trinity river of I-30 in Dallas. The plane was an Ugly Stik with the traditional trim scheme covered in clear red. it was beautiful to my eyes. Just slowly cruising around. I have been hooked ever since.

John, that is a different look for a plane, I really like it. I'm doing the Satyr I'm building in red white and blue. That plane you did gave me a lot of ideas.

RE: Transparent Monokote

Ya, I do love the transparents Gene. Definately appealing on the oldtimers.

Oh man the light bulb just came Hmm:D I just now am finishing up the extended Catalina wing to use on one of my Senior kadets and have some more bones out there. The Senior Kaydet pylon race I am putting on is coming up next month.

Now what if I set up another wing covered entirely in clear and use it on my black/clear blue Paintball Wizard. Pylon racers and especially beginners are prone when following another racer to key his turn on the one in front. Wouldn't it be cool to be able to fake out the trailing airplane now with the clear wing and the much greater difficulty for him to be aware of when you bank.

There I go agine and probably will not get to race for myself being too busy and I will be flying buddy box for one my guys.
