Props?

Ok so yeah, I'm a newbie...

But a curious one... I see some gorgeous scale models, that are almost perfect but apart from one thing, they only have 2 bladed props? Why aren't there more 3/4 bladed props around? I know u can get static ones but what is the reason?

Cheers.

RE: Props?

The biggest reason is that our engines turn much faster than full scale engines do, and the props, being smaller, bring the blades closer together. With a 4 bladed prop, each blade gets lost in the wake of the blade before it, therefore becoming much less efficient.

Ah cool, makes sence now! Shame though, nice 4 bladed prop would look so much better!

It's also a bugger to get a multi-bladed spinner or form your own. Most "real" full size multiblade props are also variable pitch to take advantage of the added surfaces. They also add significantly to weight - and therefore torque.

And they cost too much!
