General hobby problem

Hello RCU.
I'm trying to find someone who has ordered anything from general hobby recently. I ordered a yak 54 30cc plane on the 3rd of this month September. I received an email the next day saying my plane was shipped. Today is the 11th and I haven't heard anything since the email. I've called and sent emails to them. No replies what so ever. I'm on here to say be careful with this company. I would not order from them again. If anyone has had an experience with them please let me know. I'm not sure what to do yet. If I wait or try to get my money back.

Thanks. Rob

Rob, give them a little more time. You are located in FL. they are located in California. Shipping a plane across the U.S. usually takes a week to 10 days. I have never dealt with them myself, but did look at the website. Looks like they are legitimate. Call them again later this week and check on the order. Good luck with your new plane.

And if you call don't forget the time difference.

theguitar 09-14-2014 06:40 AM

General Hobby is awful. I ordered servos way back in August with the expensive shipping. They were supposed to be here around September 2nd. I eventually just ordered some new ones from tower hobbies and they were here in a flash.

Ecuyer7 09-14-2014 01:23 PM

Finally someone with the same issues. Did you ever get your servos from them. I ordered my yak on the 3rd. Still waiting for it. I understand giving them a week for shipping. I paid for 3 day shipping though. And I ordered an extension just to see how long that would take too. Still nothing.
Richard Yan is the guy who works for GH. He's trying to sell the yak on RCUs buy and sell. Orange and white one. I found him on RCU and sent a message. Still no reply. But he did reply when I asked to buy his yak on RCU. I told him too that since I purchased a plane from him that I can rate him on RCU. He will not get a good rating. And if I can tell people to stay away from his company I will.

theguitar 09-14-2014 01:52 PM

Never got the servos. I don't know if I was ever charged, but I got an order confirmation and nothing after that

FLAPHappy 09-14-2014 02:08 PM

Now that you mentioned the name,"Richard Yan", yes I have dealt with this guy before. He sent me the wrong plane, I shipped it back, finally I received the plane I ordered. I would not deal with this guy again, just my opinion, but at that time he was selling on EBAy.
If you paid via credit card you have options to deal with this.

Ecuyer7 09-14-2014 02:41 PM

Wow. That's just bad business. I can't believe he's trying to sell the same plane on RCU. That's how I found it. It's a nice looking plane. Wonder if he gets you to order it and never sends it out. I did read a thread saying the same thing you said. Shipped the wrong plane. People waiting a month before they get anything. All they do is send one email the next day saying your item was shipped. Then you can't get ahold of them.

Ecuyer7 09-14-2014 02:47 PM

Anyways. I'll give them a few more dAys. If nothing shows up I'll have to dispute the charge. Thanks for the info.

LimitDwn 09-14-2014 03:04 PM

Yes I can say that the same thing happened to me. I payed for expedited shipping which I was told by there web site will be in my hands in two days, however that was not he case, I did receive the 30cc Sbach in about 7 or 8 days. The cost for the expedited shipping was refunded but not until i put up a stink. The Sbach did come without any damage if that makes you feel better, it will come not sure how long it would take if you did not pay or expedited shipping. Not sure who you are dealing with but I was dealing with a fellow named Richard and he was good in getting back to me with email. If you need his email address let me know and i will get it for you. Be patient.

Ecuyer7 09-14-2014 03:14 PM

Thanks that makes me feel a little better. I've tried to email them and call the number under contact on there website. A few times. No response. I emailed the general hobby email address. If you have a different one that would help. It's been over 10 days and I did pay for faster shipping. So I'm not sure what else to think.

LimitDwn 09-14-2014 04:15 PM

"Richard Yan" <[email protected]>, Here is the email for Richard, as I said he was very good in getting back to to me.

Ecuyer7 09-14-2014 05:48 PM

Ok. Thank you. I'll keep this thread posted. If anything changes.

propicts 09-15-2014 06:42 AM

I ordered a Extra 260 50cc plane about two months ago. I did receive it. After trying to contact them by phone and Email. I was finally contacted by the local bus company that I
had a box to pickup ! It was the airplane !! So you might check with the local bus station to see if you have a box there with your name on it !!!

308jockey 09-15-2014 08:05 AM

I ordered an Evolution from him earlier this year and was told that it would ship by bus and was charged for that. Don't bother with expedited shipping, that won't speed anything up. After several days of no tracking information I called him again. He answered on the first try and clearly had not shipped the plane. He did so that day. Greyhound tracking was pretty useless but I did get a call about 8 days later that I had a box at the bus stop. It arrived in good shape. I'd probably order there again if there was something I was interested in but would only pay standard shipping and not be in a hurry.

radiisteve 09-15-2014 08:42 AM

How about a shipping tracking #? Whom did he ship with? This is standard info to have for tracking any package via the Web or by telephone. It also tells you when the package was shipped and how. Anytime I sell an item on RC Universe when I ship it I always give the method and tracking # to the purchasing customer just as a standard norm. We as purchasers should always expect the same from those we purchase from.

Ecuyer7 09-15-2014 09:41 PM

Alright. Thank you limitdwn. The email for Richard worked. After 10 days of not hearing anything. I finally got an email from Richard with tracking information. The plane shipped out the day after I bought it on the 4th. It'll arrive Saturday the 20th. That's with fast shipping. So if anyone wants to purchase something from general hobby which I will never do again. Expect 2 weeks waiting for your stuff. And not know what the hell is going on. I'm glad I'm getting my yak. But it's not worth the stress. In the time I've been waiting for this. I've already bought and built another 25% plane. RedwingRc is great. Shipped in 3 days. Their a great company. So that's my General hobby experience. Thanks for the help everyone.

AllModesR/C 09-21-2014 04:49 PM

So did you finally end up getting the plane?

Ecuyer7 09-21-2014 05:13 PM

Yeah. After 2 weeks it showed up. I finally got an email from Richard with tracking info. The plane was a little messed up though. Cowl had a dent in it. Part of the firewall was cracked. Fixed it all except the cowl. Best part.

HondaJet10 08-23-2016 10:11 AM

Anyone know of a thread about the Yak-54 30cc from GH? Ordered it today and trying to find out some information on it

Ecuyer7 08-28-2016 05:36 PM

Honda
I've ordered a 30cc yak from general hobby in the past couple years. Wasn't the best plane and being able to reach them was a nightmare. I've flown 30cc yaks for the past 10 years if I can help.

Well so far I've received 3 shipping confirmations all with the same tracking number. When I log into USPS it says only a shipping label has been printed. I called dozens of time to General Hobby and no one answers or will ever return your call. 2 days after the last shipping confirmation I get an email from Richard stating what I order was not in stock and asked if I'd pick something else. There was another plane I was torn between but it was a bit more expensive. I sent Richard an email stating if they would swap to the other airplane without any additional charges I would do that. He replied within minutes and agreed saying it would ship the next day. I received yet another shipping confirmation at that point to which the same result. A couple day of checking the tracking and it stayed at "label created". I emailed Richard this morning telling him what was going on and that I would be filling a claim with my credit card company to which he replied quite quickly telling me this was normal for usps. Paying $60+ for shipping on my original order and putting "2 day shipping" as an option is completely bogus. Actually a flat out lie on the website. My original order was placed on August 23rd, had to switch airplanes and supposedly shipped on August 25th.
1. Karen on the voicemail doesn't exist
2. There is no customer support
3. Flat out lies on the website about shipping methods
4. The "100% satisfaction guarantee" on the website is bogus.

***Update***
I received a message last Wednesday September 1st from Richard saying "The plane will arrive today". The plane did arrived and was very well packaged. I still do not know how he was able to track it and why my tracking info provided to me still shows the plane hasn't shipped...

The plane (Extra 330SC) is very nice. Carbon reinforced fuselage, landing gear and control surface attachment points. I tossed the nylon hinges and put dubro pin still hinges. Many of the slots for the ribbon style hinges were cut to thick for me to be comfortable using them. All things considered I am very happy with the plane. I wish General Hobby was better with order tracking and customer service or at least be up front about how minimal the staff is to keep the prices low. On the fence on ordering more from them but the quality of this model keeps it a possibility.

Hondajet
all sounds about right when it comes to Richard and general hobby. Eventually my plane showed up. After all the bs you go through. My advice and to anyone else is don't order from them. If you do make it the last time. There planes are not worth the time and money. Hopefully you'll receive yours and fill anyone in on your great experience with general hobby.

HondaJet10 11-22-2016 06:37 AM

Well I've decided to order again from General Hobby. This time I ordered the 30cc SU-26 in the Honda scheme. I work for Honda Jet so it's only fitting right ;) Anyhow, during checkout I noticed there was a price difference this time between "standard" and "2 day usps" and the UPS options. I selected the "2 day usps" option. I ordered the plane Saturday 19 Nov and received a tracking number on Sunday. Today is Tuesday and the tracking still says "label created" but no movement. We'll see how this goes I guess. Last time the order was at my door before there were any updates on the tracking. More to come.

***Update 11/26***
Well one week has past and still no airplane. I kind of expected the "two day shipping" to be delayed due to Thanksgiving but not a full week with the two day option. I did email Richard at GH and he stated two day shipping was not available due to the size of the box and assured me I was not over charged for shipping. However, the was a price difference between standard, two day and UPS so if two day was an option I was a bit over charged for an option that was not available. Again, I like the previous product I ordered and if this plane is the same quality I will still be happy with the order. I do wish however there were a better order process and shipping tracking that actually works. Even now 7 days later my tracking only states that a label has been created.

11/29
Order arrived, outstanding packaging as usual. Couldn't be more pleased with the plane. Just wish they were better organized.

sbfinley 12-06-2016 10:47 AM

I just ordered a BF 110 from General. Dec. 3rd after which I started checking on them. WOW! Now I'm worried from all the neg. comments does anyone have any up to date info on it? I called them wrote e-mails to find out if they got my order or whats going on. NO ANSWER!

HondaJet10 12-06-2016 11:16 AM

You will get your order. You just won't have ANY tracking information that is useful. It will always say "label created" until the day it shows up. The phone is useless. I've never heard of them calling anyone back. If you are buying cheaper foamies you can get them elsewhere for similar pricing with better customer support. If you are getting the 30cc+ sizes like I order it is hard to find them any cheaper and I just deal with the silence.

BUYER BEWARE regarding GENERAL HOBBY !! I have done business with numerous RC companies without any problems at all. It has been my experience that GENERAL HOBBY is a fly by night FRAUD. Bought a P51D. Retracts did not work, paid for additional shipping on new retracts. They never sent them. No email replies, no return phone calls. NOTHING. First time taxiing on runway the ESC catches FIRE! Notify them about this. NOTHING, NO RESPONSE. Its been over a month now. I have yet to be able to fly the plane.
Thank You GENERAL HOBBY for NOTHING !

I see a plane I would like and GH is the only place advertising such an ARF (Wilga 30cc). I have sent two emails and left two messages but no answer....are these guys fly by night cowboys or are they in the business of selling RC planes?

Cheers

I just was there a few days ago and picked up a few planes from them. It's a warehouse up to the ceiling with airplanes and hardly any room to walk. While I was there I could see labels printed out and the orders being filled. I have not had a problem with them at all. Just be sure the item is in stock when you order. They do not have a huge parts dept so any parts or replacement parts will be ordered from the manufacturer in china and mailed from there(you know how long that takes) ice only had good experience form them and the planes I've recently bought are good quality and fly excellent!

Skycam41 07-10-2017 03:35 PM

Thanks Predman, that's a good thumbs up. The plane I am looking at is this one Wilga 30CC 88.6'' RC plane ARF W - General Hobby but it is out of stock. I have tried and tried to get a reply wither by email or by phone but nobody every responds. Sound like the quality is good though and a very good price but I just cant find anyone else that has such an ARF.

Cheers
