Using Polyreuthane instead of Epoxy

I am in the process of covering my Top-Flite P47-Thunderbolt with 3/4oz. fiberglass and need to know if anyone has used clear polyurethane instead of Z Epoxy.

My last two models were glassed, using polyurethane (oil based) and .58 cloth.

Water based poly has been used by lots of people to glass planes with. If it's meant to be a base for painting it will work fine. If it's structural, it will probably still work fine. I've glassed with resin and WBPU and can't really say one is easier than the other. Both have their benefits.

Water based polyurethane is definitely not as strong as epoxy and the final finish is a little softer. So if it is structural strength you are after then go down the epoxy route.

However you can apply several coats of water based polyurethane in a day and it is easier to rub down.
