LT40 Wing Joining
Does this wing require fiberglassing together? If not is it recomended?
Thanks! |
RE: LT40 Wing Joining
I would fiberglass it if it was mine.

RE: LT40 Wing Joining
You can put a fiberglass strip over the wing joint and
use thin Ca to glue it after you epoxy the wing. This method does make the joint stronger. But its not a must. The wing will hold just fine if you epoxy it together under normal circumstances. Now i use a fiberglass strip on every wing joint just because i put all my planes through the ringer. LOL |

<<On my best Rev. Jesse Jackson's voice>>
If you wannit to lasss, you must fiberglasss! |
RE: LT40 Wing Joining
If the plans don't say to do it, it's not necessary. That choice was already made by the engineers that designed it.
PS If it's an ARF and the wing is covered, don't bother. |
RE: LT40 Wing Joining
If I remember correctly, when I built mine, they included a fiberglass strip and the instructions called for fiberglassing the halves together.

RE: LT40 Wing Joining
i bought the arf version and just epoxied it together. crashed it once and probably 200 flights to far and no problems with the wing

RE: LT40 Wing Joining
I'm getting the kit and if it comes with a strip great! If not I'll probably add one as I like to over build just a little. That is a big wing and I don't want it coming apart! Thanks for all the great advice!

Spokeman,
The kit version comes with a strip of fiberglass, and yes, I would recommend that you use it, top and bottom. Just per Instructions. Bob |
RE: LT40 Wing Joining
spokman,
Over building is fine just remember not to add to much weight while over building. The quickest way to turn a nice flying plane into a dog is to make it heaver then neccessary. Most kits provide a weight range for the finished product try to stay within that range... |
RE: LT40 Wing Joining
You are right about heavy planes flying like dogs! In fact I'm going to lighten anything up possible without effecting structural integrity. I want to avoid that tail heavy problem some people are encountering. No way am I putting any lead in my plane for balancing!

RE: LT40 Wing Joining
You'll find that the LT-40 has a lot of lift with that big wing. A little extra weight is not going to bother it, but Crashem is correct.. Don't put any extra weight into this plane unless you have to..
