Slope or thermal??

some times thay have longer wings compared to cord and then some times they dont.
generaly they don't have an engine but then some times they do.
generaly they have lighter wing loading than a power plane but some times they dont.
some times they are slower than a power plane but some times there faste.

now, wheres my free beer

Woodsy brought up some good points in a very light hearted way. The type of flying you want to do will determine what type of glider you need or want.

Do you want to fly slope lift?
Do you want to fly thermal duration?
Do you want a glider that can be self propelled to altitude?
Electric or gas?
Do you want to fly hand launch gliders?
Do you want to fly speed or combat?
All of the above?

All of those questions have a direct bearing on what type of glider you need. Try to locate the "League of Silent Flight" website and get what information you can there. Look though all the major R/C magazines and get all the info you can there. Then get back to this arena to ask more specific questions regarding your topic. It is so broad and encompassing that to answer it would require a week of keyboard work by someone much faster than I.

They glide. Some have motors or engine in them to get them to altitude. :D *grabs the beer and runs*

Underage Pilot, I think what the members are trying to say is: You need to be a little more specific in your question. Why do you need to know about gliders? Are you planning to build one to fly? Where will you be flying it? How big do you want it to be? And why does an underage person have beer?

If that's the case, then he should know that Gliders are a kind of rocking chair-----very comfortable if you like that sort of thing.
