Lightfoot, You are correct. I should have been more specific. A "no-nothing" in this hobby has got to seek and use the advice given (unless he's independantly wealthy and likes crashing). Some of it MAY be crap, but without a slight base of experience, the Noob'll never know. The "Filter" must be developed, so to speak.

I agree. I trained countless young men in 36 years of construction and I would tell them:" Try my way first then you can try it your way next time" This policy tought them a lot and occasionaly I learned a bit form them too.

Raptor, I'm not talking strictly about young people (adults can be, and quite often, are idiots, as well.) But I'll be willing to bet you a doughnut that you were a willing and eager student while you were learning to fly. I'd certainly listen to ANY advice you could impart to me about learning this wonderful hobby. Experience can be ageless.:)

RE: Annoying Newbie

My peace of mind is important to me. I taught stress management for a long time and in doing so, learned a lot that was helpful to me. One of the most important things I learned was that having people in your life that you don't like is very stressful and worth doing something about.

I've come to the point where I don't have the time or the energy to deal with these people any more. At first I try to blow them off, but if that doesn't work, then I just confront them. Sometimes I have to come right out and say, 'I don't like you. Please leave me alone.'

It may not be "nice" but it works. My stress levels are way down from years when I would just let annoying people keep hanging around me.

jucava,

If you belong to a private club why not simply ask the person in question to leave? If the situation is as bad as you say I'm sure you'd have the support of other members.

Every activity seems to attract people with that type of personality best you can do is distance yourself or else you'll find yourself starting to dislike the activity itself and drop out. I realize its hard sometimes but you should set the ground rules with this person and stick to them. Sometimes saying "NO I don't want to help you" isn't a bad thing.

Im New to Heli's but I ran into a problem locally where an individual tried to tell me I had the needles on my carb backward. IE: Hi speed mixed up with low speed. Well to get to the point he finally got feed up with me and pulled out a manual from a new 32sx-h engine. We were both right.. My manual was Misprinted. We both got a chuckle out of it but it could have been ugly. I knew what my book said

I wonder if we're not seeing a new trend here, the guy (or gal) who goes out and buys an R/C simulator, flies a little bit, maybee gets good at plunking something down on the runway, and all of a sudden they're an expert. That might be the case of our buddy who was flying 3D so quickly. You can get very confident flying on the 'puter, and if you've never really flown it's easy to imagine that real life is just as easy.

Just my squawk for the evening....

Those of you who think you know everything are annoying those of us who do.....

There is never a stupid question. The problem lies when someone asks a question and then rips up all the guys answering it and telling them they are dumb. That is what ticks people off the most.

Crashmen I'm thinking about it, and know that other members of my club feel the same way, this guy is in his 3 months probation prior been voted in to the club, but I don't think been annoying is reason enough to keep him out of the club, and I believe one day or the other when he soloed if he does he will learn his lesson the hard way(ground effect).

My biggest concern is that this kind of people many times are dangerous fliers(because you can't call them pilots); and you know safety is above everything. Also if he keeps annoying everyone who will train him???????

RE: RE: Annoying Newbie

Those people that think they know everything just annoy those of us that do. LOL......just let him be himself.......he will learn soon enough nobody likes a "know it all" around. Had a guy tell me "I had two good flights this morning ....how many did you have?" This was shortly after I clipped a small pine tree (13" tall) when I was takeing off for my first flight of the day. It was cold and windy and I wasnt quite up to flying that day I guess , but his smart remark came back to get him the following weekend when he buried his trainer into a 15 foot high pine and he had to climb up and retrieve it. His plane was seriously smashed and then it was my turn to ask him............ I just forgot the "turn the other cheek" pollicy that day. LOL It did feel good to get even and he has since then become a little more tolereable with his attitude. Guess what comes around goes around.

You are absolutly right however, I look at more as a question of resposibility its clear that this person has no responibiility is unwilling to listen or learn so no amountof effort on your part will matter therefore any responibility you feel to train them should be saved for someone more appreciative of the effort involved.

I realize some may think this harsh but I've never seen it written that just because we are all in the same hobby we need to put up with this type of behavior in order to give something back to the hobby.. You must draw the line somewhere

I'm not sure whats worse a know-it-all or someone who loves to honk there own horn about how they are so great at flying, landing, 3D or whatever. I have even seen a few that are both. I never questioned my instructors I was just happy they were willing to helping me. Thats just the way some people are and there always will be people like that, I've learned to avoid them as best that I can.

P.S. If I want someone to tell me I'm doing something wrong I have my wife for that;)

[:-]

My Father and Grandfather taught me many things, and now they are gone..and I to will have passed this way.

Maybe I can pass on a couple of those gems:

"While your talking, You cannot hear the Words of Wisdom being wispered in your ear!"

"If you quit learning, You are Dead!"

Then there is the Old Favorite... "Remain Silent and be thought a fool, but open thy mouth and remove all doubt. "

Somehow they seem to fit this thread and it would seem to support "Pay Your Instructor" either with Respect or Cash !!

RE: RE: Annoying Newbie

Okay guys.

I will start off by saying that I am a noob to this hobby. Haven't even flown my plane yet. Fianlly got it put together last Saturday.

Thought I had to throw my $.02 in. . .

I am going to say that I DON'T KNOW SQUAT about flying RC planes. I have, however, chimed in on some areas that I have had past experience with, i.e. NiCd batteries and radio frequency interferrence.

I, like the other noob's I have seen on this thread APPRECIATE ALL of the ADVISE and GUIDANCE that the more experienced flyers can give me. I just hope that when I finally do solo, RC style not real plane like back in the early 70's, I REMEMBER EVERYTHING I HAVE LEARNED HERE AND FROM MY INSTRUCTOR.

There is a lot of information on all of the threads on this web site to try to absorb. I would say that probably 99% is good. The other 1% can just be ignored. Problem is I don't know what that 1% is.

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

Larry

P.S. Go ahead and light your flame throwers. I'm ready. :D

:)

Will some Instructor out there in Ohio, grab Larry here and get him in the air. Am sure he would be like a spounge and soak it all up very quickly.

Whatever you do Larry, " Just level your wings before and after every maneuver " it makes life a lot easier.

Don't sweat the flyspecs in the pepper!

Best of Everything to a future R/C Pilot !

Well, I would have to add this: well I think that I may know something that could help, I know that I know ZIP compared to my Instructor who has been flying for 50 years. He may be an old fool (I am being sarcastic here ;) ) but he sure knows alot more than I do.... I might know more than him 50 years down the road, but I cannot complain now.

All you new flyers out there (like me); taking the plane off, suriviving the flight and landing without crashing; this does NOT mean you know how to fly. Just watch some 3D guys, than try and do the same thing. This should solve and attitude issues [>:]:)

Edited for typo's

I have one even better. Not a "Newbie", but a guy who thinks he knows everything because he has money and is a real pilot. He knows it all to everyone, but when he is in trouble. He Yells for the Sr pilots who he knows can bail his butt out. Then he goes around bragging how good he is and how much money he has..

This guy is really a pain, if he only knew how much most people just tolerate him..... Imagine being in a real cockpit with him.. scary

I have been in this ever changing hobby for 3 1/2 yrs and I think I've come a long way since my first flight but I still ask a lot of questions and I give advice if I'm asked but only if I know the answer.

Some might even think they know everything about everything... but I doubt that.
Specially older "experienced" pilots who insist on posting on EVERY thread. I guess they must know everything if they have an answer to the questions on every thread.
