Fuel pump plugs
 

Hi,

Ok, well, I bought a fuel pump and a starter, and I am going to buy a powerpanel, the problem is that the starter and fuel pump both have alligator clips that i cannot plug into the panel, do I buy these plugs or what?? Like to i buy the pieces to plug into the panel?? Y do they sell with alligator clips like everyone has a panel....[&:]

You have to cut the alligator clips off and solder the bananna clips on. I HATE doing that because I really suck at it, but thats what you have to do.

They sell the bananna clips and the hobby store and I think Radio Shack also.

Where can you get them? I will go that route every time because it is extremely frustrating soldering those darn things on there.

In the future if you order anything that plugs into your panel,tell them you want the banana clip instead of alligators,they have both in stock but if you don't tell them,roach clips is what they send out.

If you are considering buying a power panel most of them come with the banana plugs included.

This is how I did mine. The speaker plug on the left side of the power panel is for the starter, while the banana plugs on the right side are for the pump (covers removed to show the wire joints. The heat shrink is needed to strengthen the solder joint against fatigue). The speaker twin plug has the exact pitch for the power panel socket and the heavy gauge wires from the starter just screwed on conveniently.

I gave up that a addiction about 3 years ago! Now I have a much better addiction, although it cost about the same or more!

Yep,heat shrink makes a good solid joint,looks good.

Guys soldering is easy and the connection won't corrode like a crimp plug. Crimping is ok but soldering is better. If you guys are having problems soldering just ask for help. I solder every day at work and can give you tips. There are plenty of more experienced solderers on this board that will give you ideas.

I am by far an soldering expert. But I have no problem soldering anything else, like antenna wire, wires to a board etc. But soldering those bannana clips is a pain in my ass.

It took me over hour to do one clip one time. Its hard to get the clip hot enough to melt the solder. And its hard to get the wire twisted up small enough with solder on it to fit it in the clip.


I actually forced the wires into my starter bananna clips really tight then glued the retainer on. It works even though it is a shotty way to do it.

wings, there are a few version of banana plugs. For heavy gauge wires, you need to use the heavy duty type. which type did you use ?

You can always cut conductors off your wire until it fits. Won't harm anything if you are careful.

What kind of power panel? i bought a SIG Fieldboss, and it came with like 2-3 sets of banana plugs

radio shack seels some that the wire slips through the plug ad is crimped into place by a metal lined insulator. works great and they are cheap and easy to repair if you break a wire. And best of all.....no soldering!!!!
