ORIGINAL: qwazzy123 I would like to purchace a .71 engine , can anyone recomend a good brand name and web site to purchase from. So many decisions....so little time:eek: Thanks Qwazzy OS and Thunder Tiger are excellent engines and you will not go wrong with one of them. The GMS engine is also a very good engine AND extremely powerful, but it does require more "fiddling" with than OS or Thunder Tiger to get running right. Tower engines are made by GMS but with a different carb. I have had the Tower 46 engines. With the 46's I have had, the power was excellent and the transition and idle were quite good. The bad news - they will not shut off with the transmitter. Perhaps 1 out of 5 engines will shut off with the transmitter. I don't know if this carries over to the 75 or not. To me, not being able to shut the engine down with the transmitter is a MAJOR safety hazard and an ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. Other users of the Tower 46 have also reported poor idle and transition in addition to the shut down problem. I have not heard any reports of the GMS not shutting down with the transmitter. Paul McIntosh [email protected] is the person to contact about the GMS engines. He has quite a bit of experience with them and can tell you the ins, outs and quirks of them. If you want to go with a 4 stroke, get a Saito. User friendly, runs great and sips fuel. Hopes this helps. |
RE: Engine Brand
Either the TT or the Super Tiger would be my choice of those listed. I like the Super better. I have one to go into a Top Flight AT-6 someday. One other that I would reccomend, MVVS. They make a 77 that is real strong. Will put out tons of power on low nitro fuel. Quantum models and Morris hobbies sell them. With a tuned muffler they are an animal. I have 2 40's that are almost as strong as most 60's. Good luck with whichever one you end up with.

RE: Engine Brand
I don't think OS or TT makes a .70 two stroke. Fox is probably the best on your list, with a lifetime warrenty and great service. The carb problems are fixed. The only problem is that you cannot use more than 5% nitro fuel without modifying the head button. The Super Tigre is probably the next best, followed closely by Tower.

RE: Engine Brand
The Fox is an heirloom engine...Take care of it properly, and it will last longer than you will, and it's American-made.

RE: Engine Brand
The Irvine .72 would be a good choice. The .72 is in a .61 casting so it is space efficient and puts out about 2HP. I have 2 .61s, 2 .53s and 1 .46 and they are all great engines. They are a true ABC engine as well!

RE: Engine Brand
Well, let me put it this way if you want to be a pilot go with OS, other wise you'll be a mechanic and then a pilot.
|
RE: Engine Brand
I would echo a few of the previous suggestions and stay away from the Tower engine. I love my TT Pro, it runs like a champ.

RE: Engine Brand
Super Tigre
|
RE: Engine Brand
os os os os blah blah
Read the forums and see who has more problem posts. ORIGINAL: jucava be a pilot go with OS, other wise you'll be a mechanic and then a pilot. I drive a ford but Im not close minded about Chevy. |
RE: Engine Brand
Easy answer FOX!! there is not better engine out there.
|
RE: Engine Brand
Super Tiger or TT..
|
RE: Engine Brand
I would personally go with a Super Tiger 75. I have 4 Super Tigers, 2 75's and 2 90's. Once they are broken-in they are very powerful and very reliable. Tower Hobbies has the 75 for 119 bucks at towerhobbies.com. Can't go wrong with 'em.

RE: Engine Brand
Super Tigre and thunder Tiger are simply the bast strongest running engines on the market.... I hated my O.S. engine both in truck and planes Sold them for ST's.... Try one there will be no turning back...

RE: Engine Brand
Ok.....Look like Super tiger 75 is what I am going to get. Does anyone know if you need to get an engine mount for the Sig 4* arf, mine should be coming in the mail in the next couple days.
|
RE: Engine Brand
Your ST75 should be a good match.. The supplied mount will
work with the 75.. At least it did with 4*60.. |
RE: Engine Brand
I love my O.S. I haven't had a problem with any of mine
I love them so much I even have O.S. branded on my arm (backwards, be carefull with hot engines ;) ) |
