Beginner Flight box advice.
1 Attachment(s)
Hello and thank you in advance for all of your help.
I have a beginner question: Before relocating my friend gave me his collection of flight equipment, (I think his wife had something to do with it....laughs) and I have a flight box made by Hobbico. I tried to turn the prop of the plane in the photo with the starter and it doesn't spin. I removed the Glow plug and it spun fine with no rubbing. Is there a reason why this is doing that? Any help would be appreciated. PS I also charged the battery fully. |
RE: Beginner Flight box advice.
Did you take the prop off the compression stroke first?

RE: Beginner Flight box advice.
Yes I did.

Pull the rubber insert from the starter motor. Check the nut that holds the drive hub on to make sure it's tight. Snug it up good after applying a dab of Loctite. ( My Hobbico takes a 10mm socket ) Also you might try using your car battery to see if that will spin the engine. This will tell you if your flight box battery is bad.

If the engine is inverted then you may have hydro-locked it..When you spun it over without the plug did you get a lot of fuel spraying out?

RE: Beginner Flight box advice.
No,
I haven't taken it out on the field yet to start it up. I wanted to check and charge everything before I go out on the field. |

After charging the battery for a few more hours I attempted to try it again and it spins the prop slightly. It's probably the battery that needs to be charged a little more. Thanks folks for your help.

It sounds like your starter is not getting enough torque. What sized engine is this also what size spinner and prop

mrjones,
I would have suggested trying to charge the battery further. Usually requires a good 24 hour charge if it hasn't had one for a while. Chances are the battery is on it's way out. Dennis- |

yeah thats what im thinking too.

As DBCherry has said, Make sure your battery is fully charged..
If it still will not turn it, Your starter may be shot and you may need another.. |
RE: Beginner Flight box advice.
I'd try a different battery before replacing the starter though. It's more likely what's bad.
