Question about Airtronics Servos
For all you servo geniuses!!!! I have a Sig Kougar which has been stripped of its covering. I have to make a cowl, cockpit and turtle deck for it plus, re-cover it. This plane came with 3 airtronics servos, 94102's I think. I don't have airtronics system, just futaba and hitec.
My question is, am I able to convert these servos to futaba? outside wire signal (white), middle wire hot (red) outer wire black (ground). I have connectors to use to hook up to rx. I figure I could save myself from buying 3 standard servos. Is this possible for them to work? I moved the servo arms and there is no binding or stripped out gears. Dave... |

It depends on what type of connector the servos have. Are they black, or blue. The black ones will require an adapter to work with the hitec reciever, but the newer blue "Z" connectors will plug right in. I'm not sure about futaba, but they might work as well. Old Airtronic servos etc have a reserved polarity!!! Watch out for that ok. I got the old Airtronic (Sanwa) Quasar, the servos are already about 8 years old and never have changed the gears. They work fine for sportman flying.

Sometimes I just cut the wire, and splice in extension wire, correctly oriented at the splice. Then a new HT connector on the end, and it's ready to use. Best wishes, Dave Olson |

I think re wiring them with the new JR compatible leads would be much easier than looking for the adapters ... then you just reverse the wires at the connector end, I did that with the newer 102s with the blue connectors.

I'm pretty sure that the "standard" wireing is what you describe, red/hot wire in the middle. So I think those are the newer airtronics connectors not the old ones. The reason for the red wire in the middle is so that you don't toast something if you plug it in backwards (not that I'd ever plug a servo in backwards).

Wups! Yep, Montague is correct. Your connector ends are probably blue. They'll slip right into the HT receiver or extension, and work properly. No reversing + and - wires necessary, no 3-cog black connectors.

Okay, here is a pic of the airtronics connector. One red wire on the end. The other two wires look black though...not blue. Might be because of age.

That's the old style and if you look close the outside black wire will have a grey/white trace on it. Probably real light but it will be there.
The new "Z" style is a blue connector. The adapters are readily available or just cut off the old and solder on new ends. FB |
