RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
Hey Terry,
I have that white soft foam stuff, it came in the box if i wrap it in that and them masking tape it up, same with the RX will that work? i bought sum velcro incase that route is needed. i was going to put the RX switch on the other side to the muffler in the black area just under the wing, but i havnt done that yet. Nore have i put tubing over the clevis because i did not know i needed to[&:] I have noticed that when i take the tubing to the muffler off it rips instead of just pulling off..... I ave sum work to do :D |
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
bushman - the plane looks pretty and the installation looks good. only thing is the throttle looks like it could hit the elevator servo. should cut it to ensure there's no interference. also, have you checked the CG? your rx and battery placement would depend on it. since you have a very light engine there, you may end up needing some nose weight. i'm not a big fan of the LA series of O.S. engines but if you've got it, no problem but you'll most likely be a little light in the nose.
terry, it doesn't look like there's right thrust on that engine. have a look. looks like it's pretty much dead center. |
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
Hey fourstroke,
i havnt checked the C of G yet i was going to do that after i had secured where the rx and batteries will go. I think i may need to add a little nose weight but i am hopping it will work out ok, using the finger method should work? Cheers Phil. |
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
just on the right thrust, what is that, i have never herd of it before is it good or bad? will i need to mod it?
|
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
you have it reversed, you should mount the rx and battery based on the CG and try to add as little weight as possible. by putting the battery even next to the fuel tank, you can save some weight which will ultimately help the flying characteristics of your plane.
first take the wing and put two small stickers on the underside where the CG should be based on kyosho's recommendations. these should be just large enough for your fingers to find and be 1"-2" from the fuse on either side when you mount the wing. empty the gas tank - CG should always be adjusted when the plane is at it's lightest fuel load. the plane need not be bone dry but suck as much fuel out as your pump allows. now mount the wing with the rx where it is now but take out the battery. try to balance the plane at the CG by placing the battery pack forward and backward along the fuse of course on top of it. when you find the right place, take off the wing and mount the battery pack. remount wing and make sure it is level when your fingers are one the CG or the nose is ever so slightly lower. |
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
forstroke,
Sounds easy enough, lucky i didnt do it my way i woulda just added usless weight to my plane. Ill try n get it done tonight or early tomozza. Cheers Phil. |
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
right thrust - generally a plane is built with 2 degrees of right thrust and 2 degrees down thrust. the right thrust is to compensate for the torquing of the motor which will pull it left at any amount of throttle. 2 degrees usually allows the plane to track straight at speed. the downthrust is so that a level flight, the attitude of the plane is a little pitched up (for lift) while the propeller is still pulling it parallel to the earth.
i'm sure some others will chime in to agree or disagree! i'm sure that kyosho wouldn't make a blunder like that. the only thing is that if you purposely straightened the engine inside the mount instead of allowing the two rails to dictate the angle of the engine and drilled based on what you saw was square then you might have some problems there. but if you just put the engine on and adjust the rails so that it hugs the body of the engine, then drill and mount... shouldn't be a problem. |
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
fourstroke,
The engine mount came pre mounted all i did was tighten it up then set the engine on it, so hopfully that should make it all ok. Cheers phil. |

RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
you mean you didn't need to drill holes in the engine mount? it uses the flexible engine mount where you have aluminum straps?
|
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
Phil,
Something I should have asked you earlier, did you get your Tx bandwidth checked? I'm not sure what the rules are at SRCS, at Coffs Harbour where I also fly a visitor can use a double width key as a short term. Hopefully we can sort something out if you haven't had it done. Don't forget to charge your batteries!!! Not sure about the white stuff you have for packing the Rx, I have have some foam I've put out to bring along in case needed. There is a fair bit that can be sorted out at the field, however there is also a chance that something will need to be done that can't. Better to take home an intact unflown plane than a broken flown one! Having said that, if we can get you into the air safely we will!! Terry |

ORIGINAL: forestroke you mean you didn't need to drill holes in the engine mount? it uses the flexible engine mount where you have aluminum straps? Hey Forestroke, i did not need t drill any holes for the engine mount, there was a plastic one on the plane and i just put my engine on that one..... |

ORIGINAL: Redback Something I should have asked you earlier, did you get your Tx bandwidth checked? Don't forget to charge your batteries!!! What is or how do i have my Tx bandwidth checked? That means that i havnt done it :P so how do i do it? Cause im guessing i need to have it done, and i dont have the rechargeable nicad batteries but i am taking a trip down to wings n things tomozza so i might buy a set for my TX. cause atm i have energizer batteries in both. Cheers Phil. |
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
bushman - that's good. well good luck this weekend! i hope the weather in taiwan cooperates... i'm having flying withdrawals after nearly a month without flying!
|
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
Phil,
You can get a bandwidth check through Wingsnthings but I think that the guy only comes to do it last Thursday of the month or on a full moon or something like that. Hopefully we can work out something temporary for tomorrow, will need to check what the rules are though. I would recommend getting Nicads, not least because I have no idea how long alkaline cells would last in a model. I have a spare Rx pack, I'll try and remember to charge them and bring them along. My planes are on charge now so the charger will be free tonight. Just noticed that your radio is Futaba, mine is JR. Not sure if the battery connectors will hook up, I know that you have to play with Futaba servo connectors to get them to fit JR but never played with the battery connectors. Terry |
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
Hey Terry,
Im going for a trip down to wings n things so i will take my TX and see if they can check my bandwidth and also see if i can get nicads then charge them up, anything else you can think of that i will need, spare glow plugs props fuel.... that all i can think of atm. Cheers Phil. |
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
Well.... just got back from wingsnthings and i bought 2x 11x 6 props, 1 glow plug a 2.5 L bottle of fuel, a nicad RX and 8x rechargable TX batteries, 1x rx and tx battery charger a hand pump fuel pump, a fuel pump filter ahhhh think thats it :)
Those hobby stores will send me bankrupt one day :) Hope i have everything i should need now :) hehe Phil. |
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
Phil,
Essentials are:- All of the plane and whatever it needs to assemble (looks like wing bolts in your case) - Not so obvious, most of us have forgotten something vital at some time. Transmitter Charged batteries Fuel and a way of getting it into the tank Glow ignitor Starter or chicken stick Insect repellent Spare prop and plug are handy to have, even more so if you have a wrench to fit them if needed! You will need to get a 25mm frequency key at some time, I'm pretty sure there are couple for visitors though. Something to clean the plane when you've finished. Paper towel + kitchen spray. I also keep a bunch of small tools in my flight box, mostly screwdrivers and hex drivers. I don't take glue to the field as I prefer to do repairs at home. Usually take 2 planes though. Heaps more you could take but with a little help this should get you going. Terry |
RE: Elevator + Tail wobble
Hey Terry,
Your list looks good, i think i have all those bits and peices and i just got back from the hardare store and bought myself a tool box, a little to big for my liking but it should hold all my bits and peices with no effort :) Now just to charge my batteries up fix my CG and hope that my plane passes inspection :D Phil. |
