RE: Four star build
I looks ok. I think i will finish this wing tonight. and then probably begin on the right wing or fuse. Tommrow is take your child to work day, so i will check out or something and get more work done. It's cool to see that winggo from some sticks to an actual wing.

RE: Four star build
Exeter,
I thought the same thing myself. |
RE: Four star build
Jeez...I wish they had the internet when I was in school. Too much fun goofing off. Wing looks pretty good. It's good that there are still some young people getting into our hobby, instead of sitting in front of their computers for 12 hours a day...

I got the other half of the wing done and thay are now joined. It is looking ok.. Kinda rough but this IS my first biuld. I got the wing pretty much done except hinges and ailerons and covering. So it will be done when i go out there next ready to cover and sand. I might start on the Fuse tonight, because i still have a bit of time to biuld.

Looking good Chad. I built a 4*60 a few years ago and still love the plane. It is a great flyer.
I did a few mods to mine while building like put a counter balance tip on the rudder, dual elevator servos, pull-pull rudder, add 1" to the rudder and elevator, better tail wheel, motorized candy/parachute drop built into the plane. I have a total of 7 servos inside this model. I have a YS .91FZ on the front spinning a 15x6. The plane will hover and torque and knife edges are too nice. You are going to love this plane a lot. You can view a few more photos of this plane it you go to my RC page by clicking HERE |
RE: Four star build
What about the dual aileron servos? Are you going to include them? If so, best time to install wiring guide tubes is before joining wing halves. Not mandatory to have tubes but nice. These make great wiring tubes and your LHS either has them or can get them if not from Tower.
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...4&I=LXF571&P=K Saw your glues spread out on bench. Liked the fact that Gorilla Glue was not in sight, keep it that way. You don't need it for this plane. BTW- Yesterday was MY sick day. |
RE: Four star build
Bruce,
Another way to make quick and easy wiring tubes is to roll up a sheet of paper. Slip it into the holes in the ribs and hit it with a quick spot of glue to hold it in place. I agree with Bruce, I think your moving a bit quick Chad. Especially if you want dual aileron servos. Now is the time to think about them, not after you have sheeting and covering in place. |
RE: Four star build
Chad- you never answered MinnFlyer's question as to whether or not the plane uses cap strips either. Do the plans show how to do it?
We understand the eagerness, but it is going to be a while before you fly it anyway. Your time would be better spent getting your trainer repaired and PLANNING a little more. What you are doing is typical of youth (and us older guys too at times). Take your time on this, enjoy it a bit more and get it right. I usually spend several months on a build. You have to leave room for the rest of your life too |

RE: Four star build
so the dual aileron installation instructions ARE included? Can't get Chad to answer on this for some reason.

The 60 uses duel already. I thought it was a 60 size, but the 40 size is fun also. |

RE: Four star build
sorry guys.
I decided not to do the dual ailerons and leave it simple for now and my the plans. But i have a feeling i will do it sooner or later. DTB, I will be doing a parachute drop or 2 (one in the front and one in the back :D |

It is on the 60 size, but a lot of the construction is still the same for the 40 except for a few changes between the two models. You can get an idea of what's going to be next, needed, have to be done before you get there or even some slight mods. Hope it helps you or others Click HERE |

ok guys Heres some pictures of the plane. I forgot to mention. I went to the LHS and they happened to have a Super Tigre G-51 in stock. So i decided to buy it. My 7caf should com in by friday too.
That Super Tigre is VERY powerful. I had it full throttle today and help my plane vertical and It almost came out of my hand. But i am glad on that buy. Anyways heres the pics enjoy. One question These aileron control things on the wings will not glue good. Can i get some new ones or something, these are horrible. Any other 4* biulders have some opinions? |

Any other 4* biulders have some opinions? What is the exact problem that you are having with the ailerons. Are you using CA hinges or robart hinges. CA hinges do work well if properly installed. |
RE: Four star build
"These aileron control things on the wings"- Is this a new technical term I have not heard before?
Are you referring to the hinges or the control horns or something else? |

I thought the same thing, but thought I'd wait and see what he says about them. I think he means the control horns. Chad, if that is the case you don't glue the control horns on. You mark where they mount, drill a hole through the aileron for the mounting screws, and then use the mounting screws to attach the horn to the aileron. Make sure you screw the back of the control horn to the other side of the aileron. |
