evolution trainer system
a year ago i purchased an alpha 60 trainer and its been a great plane to fly,now i'm wanting to pick up a little more speed ,so i was wondering if i could remove the training prop and install a larger one.the trainer .61nt has a fly wheel on it and the non-trainer .61nt does not. what can i do?

RE: evolution trainer system
I know you can get a prop adapter for the 40 size from Horizon when in stock, do a search on the parts page for that engine.

RE: evolution trainer system
I think this is what you want, I'm not sure though as there is no picture of it. Give them a call to make sure.

You can also remove the weighted hub by placing it over an open Vise, or a large socket (Large enough for the thrust plate to fall into). Then place a small socket on top of the back-side of the thrust plate and hit it with a hammer.
The thrust plate will slide out with a bit of persuasion. |
RE: evolution trainer system
I don't know about the weighted hub, I put an OS engine in my (Alpha 60) and it didn't have one. All you have to do is get a spinner for a 2 blade prop and a 2 blade prop. I have run a 12-6 Master Air Screw and it flies very well, much faster, but it flies fine. I still run the 3 blade trainer prop because it really slows the plane down. I have also run the aluminum screw on spinner nut. Just doesn't look the same but flys just as good.
happy flying with a great plane!!! |
RE: evolution trainer system
If it is like the Evo .46 a spinner wont work on the flywheel. They don't sit flush due to the nuts on the back side of the spinner.

RE: evolution trainer system
I had the evolution .46 on a hanger 9 Arrow and I did remove the flywheel and replaced with a standard hub. I think it came with the engine. The new spinner/backplate worked fine with this hub and an 11x7 APC.

RE: evolution trainer system
Yes, the Evo will work fine with a 2-blade prop, and if the spinner you buy has a flat backplate, you won't have to remove the flywheel. I was just pointing out that if you DO need to remove the flywheel, it's possible, and very easy to do.

RE: evolution trainer system
I just took it off to see if there was any differance in engine performance on the low end. I was told it was on there to help the idle speed of the shaft. I didn't see any differance in this engine without it at idle rpm, however, the 2-blade prop woke The Arrow up. Really gained a lot of air speed. It did make it a little faster on landing approach and had less capability to slow it down with throttle.
