Plane Storage

I want to get ideas on how to store planes in my garage with limited space. If anyone has a picture of the way they store their planes please post it. I would love to see.

I don't have a picture, but I installed a 16" wire shelf and several 12" shelf supports that I bought at Home Depot. I store the wings on the supports and hang the fuse's from the self by wrapping a 6" bungee cord around the props and hanging them from the wire shelf.

Works out good.

You can hang the planes from the ceiling to take up no used space. The shelf is a great idea. I went to Home Depot and bought an aluminum garden hose hanger and hold place the plane on it hanging by the landing gear.

I use bicycle hooks into the ceiling with plastic pipe racks hanging from them - can place wing on one side of pipe risers and fuselage on opposite side over car or bikes or other items on floor. If profiles - put a hook on the wall and dog ear a coat hanger [place the wheels through the openings] and make the hanger hook into a loop to go on the wall hook.

I get to bungee cords and 2 hooks on the ceiling. This works as both a tail hangar (Hook the bunngee cords together and hang it on the horizontal stab, or a whole fuse hangar, (wrap the cords around the fuse and back to the hook.)

Also, you could make a hanging PVC Cradle. That would be fun...

When I get enough planes to do this with, I'll be making my own version of this:

I learnt that the best way to store your planes is to SELL all that we really DO NOT need and STOP buying planes and keeping them NIB. Hehehehe ...

Cool ideas!! If anyone else has some, I would love to see them. A older guy who works with my wife and has been out of the hobby for about 15 years just gave me some older planes that can be recovered and look like brand new. I thought I would fix them up and either fly them or sell them. I dont even know what kind of planes they are. I will have to take some pictures and post them. So I was kind of getting an idea on how I could store them. :D

I personally do not do it but our club president has a piece of plywood made up the attaches right where his wing attaches. He then puts a hook in the plywood right over the CG and hangs in that way from the ceiling. The wings are stored on storage racks made from 3/4 dowel rods glued into the 2X4 wall studs.

Of course this only works on planes with one piece wings. Really simple but very effective

I don't have any pics yet, but I'll post them as soon as I do. At my wife's suggestion, I hung some hollow core closet doors with clothes line. Lot of room to put your stuff. Up out of the way. Easy access with a step ladder.

I built my own using scrap 1"x1" from Home Depot. Took me a few hours to design and build. Total cost was around 7 or so bucks. ;) I didn't have enough wall space in my garage, but have 10' ceilings, so my hanger idea worked perfectly and is light and easy to load the planes into. It also provides good support for the planes and doesn't put any pressure on key areas.

I bought brackets for all the corners for added support. I used simple soft pipe insulation for padding and a staples and zip ties to finish it off. Should be easy to build on to and extend as well. I've since added hangers for my controllers as well.

patternflyer1,

That is utilizing all your space. How many planes do you have? My wife would kill me!

RE: Plane Storage

Well, I'm not quite sure how many I have. Too many though, I know that. And my wife aint happy about them all either. She's always telling me I have to many. I just tell her "a man can never have too many planes". I also tell her that when I die, she will be able to sell my r/c stuff for alot of money. That one usually makes her happy, lol. Just kidding. I'm actually in the process of starting to sell a few. Well, I'm thinking about it. hahaha

only b,

thanks for sharing your picks! Really cool. Actually everyone has given me a lot of good ideas. I say, forget about parking your car in the garage, that is what driveways are for. Might as well fill the garage with planes!:D
