Help finding a part

Hey people,

Today I lost my nut that holds my prop. I went to the local hobby shop, but for some reason they couldn't find one. Wanted to see where you all thought I could get it. I have a 46 Thunder Tiger Engine. Please help.

Thanks,

Eric[8D]

According to Tower, it's a standard 1/4-28 shaft. This is a very common size. Here's some from Fox: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKF97&P=0 . If you look around, you'll find ones from many other manufacturers. You might also be able to find one from a local hardware store.

Most people just go to the hardware store for a 1/4-28.

Enjoy

freestyle6883,
Once you find a source for these nuts you may want to pick up some extras and keep them in your flight box. One of Murphy's Laws says that an nut dropped on the ground will immediately roll/bounce someplace that is difficult to see, and impossible to retrieve!!! :D Having spares can save a flying day at the field if it happens to come off at the field. While rare I have seen prop nuts come off in flight and the spinner, prop, and nut came off and fell off the plane. Pretty much next to impossible to ever find again. So always have spare nuts and props (you can fly without a spinner). Now before you get paranoid about losing it in flight let me say that it's almost always a 4-stroke that throws the prop off, 2-strokes rarely do it.

Hope this helps

Ken

If you get the nut at the hardware store, be sure to ask for a "Grade 8" nut versus a common "Grade 5." The grade 8 designation is stronger heat treated steel and is probably what came with the engine.

Good point carrellh, I've found that when it comes to nuts, bolts, screws & alot of smaller type parts than can be found at your local hardware store, they will be much cheaper than at any hobby shop. Example: a 1/4x28 'prop nut" may be $1.99 at the hobby shop, or 17 cents at the hardware store.:D Mind you those are not actual numbers, just an example, but you get the idea! I allways check the hardware store first for little things, then if they don' have what I need, I go to the hobby shop.

Some 2 strokes have what is called a "JAM NUT" on them for a prop nut. They are thinner than a standard nut. I've bought them at the Hardware close to my house.
enjoy,

Home depot -- isle 5, right side bin # 36. Just kidding but they do carry 1/4 28's in the nut section. ENJOY !!! RED
