Well where i live, you might get gale force winds 5 days a year, you might get rain 30 days a fear , so that leaves 330 days for flying , and i use everyone of those days to go and have 4 or 5 flights.inthe mornings. So does that make me addicted?

Was driving home from work yesterday and once I got in the neighborhood I saw the UPS truck driving in the opposite direction. Well I waved to the driver as we are on a first name basis, but more-so I was exited to see the truck feeling like a kid at Christmas. Then I remembered... I have not ordered anything this week yet. Background. I have been flying regularly since January due to a deployment to Iraq that delayed my entry into this sport but since then I have a 7 plane hangar. Next addition will probably be a park flyer to keep in the car for inpromptu flying.

Ok how bad is it when your wife calls you and asks,"Are you going to fly after work there is supposed to be no wind?" right then and there I can not think jof work the rest of the day of coarse. So I go home at lunch and get the planes loaded in the truck, bring them back into the office so I can throw them on the charger. I now have more rc equipment on my desk than I do actual work. I guess I have got it preety bad. I know that I should give flying a rest after nine hours of flying on sunday.:D:D:D:D

Ok first off the fun stuff....substitute the word flying for drinking in this quote from W.C.Fields,,"quitting drinkin is easy, I do it all the time"...
now down to the serious news..dude your wife calls to tell you there is no wind and you should fly after work?? That can only mean that her boyfriend doesnt fly, he must be an RC car guy! baahahahaha...

Yeah, My wife has two boyfriends. They are my two boys who are 4 years and 10 weeks. I know she is not trying to get rid of me because she is at the field with me. She loves to be out there when I fly the oldest boy likes to have fun out there as well. I guess I am a rare one that I enjoy my wife to come along. All though every one knows if Mama aint happy aint no one happy. The only thing that I don't like is when a small misshap occurs to the plane I hear a voice from the spectater area saying (HOW MUCH IS THAT GOING TO COST?!?!?!?!?)
:D

It's funny (in a way) to see the posts that sound like an AA meeting. My first wife left me for some drunk in AA. The thing that bothers me is that I never got a chance to thank him........[:-]

My name is Brad, and I'm an RCaholic. Its been 10 days since my last flight[&o]

I travel a lot for my job. I haven't figured out how to get a plane on the airline yet, but I'm working on it. Where ever I go, I try to find the local flying club and go spend time at the field getting ideas to take back to my home club (of which I'm president). When I'm sitting in hotel rooms, I use the free high speed internet to keep up with RCU and Spadworld, when I'm not drawing out my next build project. I have three planes in my hanger, plus the club trainer, plus a pile of balsa thats getting bigger. The other day, I drove 45 minutes out of the way to go pick up a pile of balsa that someone was giving away. If the weather is bad on the days I'm not travelling, I'm grumpy and depressed. I think I have a wife and 3 kids upstairs over my basement workshop, and some woman keeps answering the phone when I call home that sounds familiar. I spend more time mowing the club field than I spend working on the house. I'm trying to figure out how big a box I need to UPS a float plane to my parents cottage in the Adirondacks for next month when I'm on vacation.

Quit? You gotta be kiddin'.

After my LT40 trainer I wanted to get a good 2nd type plane that would be my every day flyer. I bought a Hobbico Brightstar. I thought I would be happy with it and I was until a guy asked me chase his FW90 around. When I would almost catch up to him he would make a quick turn. When I tried to follow him the plane would lose almost all its speed in the turn. Thats when I decided I wanted a different plane. Well now I am up to 10 planes ready to fly and 3 more almost completed as well. [X(] I think I may be slowing down though! :D

If you don't mind electric you could stash one of these in a suitcase.

RE: How bad do guys get addicted

Cough, erm, hello im new here (sitting in chair looking lost),

My name is erm...........Mr Smith.......and well it only started in December last year([:o]).

My wife first gave me a fix at Christmas, a little FP heli, she made my head spin...
Then my sister gave me my second fix on my birthday four days later, a two channel microlight, high as a kite......

Then i started to buy my own fixes........[:o]

Of work sick (cough), i decide to hang around those places i was warned of, looking for a fix, the LHS.
The fixes where getting bigger, i was now up to four channels, A wing Dragon Sportster, Now it was speed

I too started to realize the habit was forming when i started buying small amounts and hiding it under the car seat, staching it for a good day, My Aero ace, a quick fix !!!!

I know this sounds bad but i still need more, ive even thought about making my own fixes in the shed out of things i can find, is this wrong ???

All this took only 7 months to severly grip me and i have even gone without food for it !!!

There is some good news from this addiction, (this bit is true)

I had a job interview the other week where i was required to give a power point presentation of my own choice, so i decided why not do setting up the swash plate as a topic. In the slide show i had put video footage of me flying at the end but his computer didnt run it, so they persuaded (:D) me to fly it in the interview, as i had brought it for then as a reference to the slides (my piccys where poor)

So there i was hoverring in the interview...............

On the way out i heard one of the interviewers say to the other "that was cool, i wish everyones presentation was about rc helicopters!"

And yes i got the job, i will soon be teaching engineering to apprentices at college, But i did have a week off in between jobs so i could go flying...

(mr smith takes a deep breath and looks embarrassed)

RE: How bad do guys get addicted

hey my name is Tim, big Tim and it all started years ago to long to remember it was just a little touch the wing I think, I had it under control, lines yes it was the control lines that did it, then I found the box just a little box couple of sticks , no big deal just a couple of sticks ,right.
then came puberty a huge distraction and the addiction faded behind a sea of(edited for adult content) LOL. then came the kids, I was doing a little search on the web, toys I think, there innocent right just for kids not something a full grown man might need, then I saw it it said "ready to fly" I thought well just one wouldn't hurt nothing to worry about I WAS IN CONTROL!.
I could handle it ,before I knew it the TF spitfire was coming, the pile of sticks were taking shape faster than I thought, a larger project than I was ready for but I was in deeper than I could have imagined its nearing completion just a little paint ,the U CAN DO was next, then a GIZMO kit ,and of course who could resist a H-9 P40 I am really a warbird junkie at heart. the TF P-47 is on the way what to do? I guess I am going to have to build some more storage space . I just cant stop! I am choking on balsa dust.the kits are piling up, what can I order next ?

RE: How bad do guys get addicted

Okay, how's this one. It started off simple enough, harmless even. My dad built a plane for me "just to see if I'd like it". You know, the "first fix is free" kinda thing. Then, it all started to fall apart. I found myself squirrelling away funds to supply my habit: you know, fuel, supplies, better gear and such. Then, my little plane wasn't enough, I needed another, then two. Now, my dealer at the LHS knows me on a first name basis. It's kinda like Norm when he walks into Cheers. I needed to get up at 5 o clock in the morning to get to work by 9:30, plus the usual Shower, Shave and Sig Kadet Senior. I'm now buying fuel by the cases and looking at going to gas so I can burn more that costs less and the planes are just getting bigger. Do you have any idea how much flying you need to do to go through two cases of fuel in a Saito 50 and an OS 40 LA ?!!!! And that's only since February! Now I've just started flying my Sukhoi with a Saito 180 in it and I might have to get a second job!

My wife and I recently went on our 11th anniversary to Myrtle Beach. She got tan, I got to check out the LHS and the Long Bay R/C club's flying field. They tried an intercession by keeping my planes at home but thanks to the internet, I found a network for my fix.

it's gotten to the point where I'm beginning to store up planes for others. My dad is bringing down all his planes to keep at my place next month and when he comes down, I've already slated a week off with pay just so we can go flying. I've even set it up so that my wife will be taking our kids up north for two weeks so she wouldn't be troubled by my condition during this trying time.

Admitting it is half the battle, draggin your tail out of bed at 5 o clock to do something about it is the hard part!

Andy

I have my packages sent to my work. Every time I go to the front office the receptionist asks me if I have a package coming in to day. I need a second job, but just on rainy days.
OOPs I just scooped a G - 23 and a G - 38 off of ebay for a serious steal. Yippy!!!!!

Thanks NOW I have another problem

Does this sound about right ?

A man shouldn't fool with booze “PLANES” until he's fifty; then he's a damn fool if he doesn't.

Alcohol “PLANES” is like love: the first kiss is magic, the second is intimate, the third is routine. After that you just take the girl's clothes off.

Another little drink “PLANE” wouldn't do us any harm.

WOW I’ve got it bad ….Rich

If my wife sees this thread, her suspicions will be proven true. I built a trainer about 12 years ago, but never flew it - I joined a club and they told me whatever you do, DON'T LET TONY TEACH YOU! Well, everytime I went to the field, Tony was there looking for newbies to train. Eventually, I packed up the plane and got married instead. This spring I saw an ARF version of my trainer at a garage sale, in the box, and said "look Babe, my plane." So she said buy it. And now - my name is Jim and I'm an RC Addict....
