4 Stroke Smoke?
Well I maidened my WM Super Sports Sr. Saturday and all went well. It handled the reletively breezy conditions and came home in the same number of pieces it went to the field in. It is powered by a Saito .91 4 Stroke and only weighs about 9-9.5 lbs. After I found that it does pretty nice inverted spins, I said to myself, "That was cool, but what doing that with smoke would be cooler". So since I know nothing about smoke can someone sujest a good system for me? Thanks.

RE: 4 Stroke Smoke?
Thanks Ken and Minn. That definately helps me understand how it works and that I do not need to buy a $100 "smoke" muffler. What do you think of this?
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXTU96&P=7 What I don't see here is a way to plum this into the exhaust system. I was thinking of drilling and tapping another "nipple" in the exhaust pipe header similar to the one that is used to pressurize the fuel tank. |
RE: 4 Stroke Smoke?
That Perry pump system looks pretty nice. Yes you will want to drill & tap the header for a pressure nipple to feed your smoke oil line back to the header with. Refer to Mike's got smoke diagrams for nipple location on header. Her is another link to a pumpless system which seems to work well for smaller engines, both 2 cycle, or 4 stroke. They also have a one piece pipe that you might decide you need to go along with your smoke system. This is a link that PiperChuck put up in another thread, they have some nice stuff. Check it out.
http://www.macspro.com/ Good luck, I hope this helps. Check out their smoke system video & set up pics. They've got it set up in an Avistar, lol with an OS 70 Surpass & boy they got that thing smoking pretty good, especially for being a pumpless system, just all ran on back pressure I guess. Sure seems to work well!! |

Here is a pic showing how I tapped into exhaust header. I wrapped it around the header and silver soldered it. The tube I got from NAPA. I used the YS pressurized fuel system pressure to run smoke system. works great.
Here is a short video of the smoke system in action. [link]http://media.putfile.com/Smoke-On-61[/link] |
RE: 4 Stroke Smoke?
Looks like you got that thing dialed in pretty well too, good job, nicely done!![sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: 4 Stroke Smoke?
I was going to post the link to the pump I am using, but Minn beat me to it!!! :D IMHO I'd rather pay 12 bucks for a smoke system than 70!!!!!

RE: 4 Stroke Smoke?
So is this washerpump small? I saw the picture but not much to scale it to. Then where do you get the check valve?

The windshield washer pump is about 2"x2"x2.5". Ken |
RE: 4 Stroke Smoke?
And although it is a 12v pump, it works well on 4.8v - However, you MAY need to loosen the 4 screws on the bottom of the pump to get it to spin on 4.8v (I bought 4 of these pumps and 2 of them needed to be loosened - the other 2 worked fine out of the box)
BTW, here's a video of this smoke system on a YS 91: [link=http://www.minnartist.net/Skybolt/Videos/skybolt_high_res.wmv]Skybolt w/ Smoke[/link] |
