Wel the other trainer (AVISTAR) came in today but thats for a neighbors young boy.
As for me the price of the 1/3 PITTS just may push me to another plane.
I'm looking at the P_40E WARHAWK.
Ahhh So many planes and not enough time.
But I do have a strong feeling i'm gonna get the PITTS SPECIAL S-2C ARF by KYOSHO since it's covered and I don't have to invest additional money in irons and othjer covering materials.
I'll let ya know :D

I looked at your birds and they sure are nice.
I sure like to see that one come in for a landing on the skies.
Were they kits or ARF?
How much time to get them from the box to the air? :)

I build all my planes as far as im concerned is a big part of the hobby. But that is my pleasure. I don't own any ARFS

Your better off.
The Avistar that arrived today is being returned.
The so called professional MoniKote application is the PITS!!.
The servo for the rudder was screwed in backwards.
Also had a puncher hole in the vertical stab.
Best bet is the local hobby store.
You can see what your buying and if it's got some flaws then you can bargain.
With mail order they feel that most people will do the repairs because repacking and shipping back to see if refund is approved is a big pain.
I had a big combo field box ordered but told the Girl to forget it.
No big deal but a 14 year old boy will be unhappy this weekend so were going to shop al the local stores :)

YOU are going to get 2 schools of thought. Some like Mono kote others perfer Ultra Kote ( ORACOVER is another name )
I have used both and will no longer use monokote. THe ultra kote has theh color in the film not in the glue. Meaning if you lift the covering off for a repostion the color comes off. Second the ultra kote is a little bit thicker and has a better stretching quality for arround curves and wing tips. Is what I have found anyway.

I really prefer to cover now in fabric and paint, ( is alot stronger, no sags, little heavier) but am getting off the orignal subject of this thread.

I'm with Dennis. Ultracote is better. In addition to all of the things he said, you can also tell the glue side of the ultracote by its matte finish. Monocote looks the same on both sides - which can mess up your iron if you are not careful. Guess how I know?

I agree with you.
That Mono Kote is good for cheap repairs.
I have not seen one yet with no bubbles or wrinkels.
But I guess it's OK for cheap trainers :)

I had many others tel me that it was much better.
I see where some ARF planes are coming out with the ultra Kote now. :)

Hi Dennis,
I had many others say i'm nuts for going back to the old way of covering.
One person even posted that a bit over a week ago.
I love the fabric.
No irons needed and when it shrunk,
It was tight and no wrinkles or bubbes.
Also I felt it was pretty strong.
I just got back from 2 local shops but they don't carry any of the material :(

No, the original post was asking about a 2nd plane, NOT covering...

Please, start a new post, when you get so far off the original post. I will be closing this thread, as it has gotten so far off.

On the side, I think the fabric is great - especially on the larger planes - much more scale and realistic, and adds tremendously to the finished product....
