Props
I've heard a lot of things about props. I've heard that when you have a bigger prop and smaller pitch, the plane will have more power. But if you have a bigger pitch, doesn't the prop blow more air. So wouldn't the plane have more power with a bigger pitched prop? Please help, I'm confused.

The longer the prop the more tourque it generates, which means there is more thrust on your plane. The higher the pitch the more speed your plane gets. However the higher these numbres are the more power they need to be able to turn at a suitable rpm, which means you need a larger engine for larger props. Running props that are to big for an engine wont give you faster speeds or thrust but just damage your engine. Theres a bunch of site that tells you which props you can use with which enigne. Most enigne have a good range of props that can be used. Example my .40 LA is said to be able to use a 10-6 prop 11-5 props and a 10-5 prop. Its important to have a good prop the suits your engine and plane. It should suggest the right prop to use in your engine manual.

Sorry for the first line the larger the prop the more thrust it generates but not tourque. Sorry.

thanks PaPa-NeGeorgeo,
I've heard of someopf that stuff but i have run a 11-6 on an 40 LA and on a control line plane, i have run a 11-7 on a 35. The engine seems to run fine. the engine runs at it's proper speed. Airplane_boy |

A 11-6 will run fine on a .40 LA personally i use a 10-6 and it runs fine for me.

Another way to think about it is that if you equate the propellers pitch and diameter to a car's transmission the larger the diameter, the lower the gear (more pulling power) the higher the pitch the higher the gear (more speed). Just like cars, for takeoff and landings, larger diameter works better, for flat out speed, you need the pitch to move the air faster!
