Good flight pack?

Is this a decent flight pack? [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXJ53&P=ML]Futaba Flight Pack w/R127DF Rx/5 S3001 Servos/NiCd/Low[/link]. This will be for my 2nd/3rd plane (just got a kit which I am building), it is a Twist .40 with an OS .46 AX engine. Thanks.......Jack

Looks good to me. I've used the same setup.

You'll do just fine with that flight pack.

Why a helicpoter flight pack in a plane? What about this flight pack?

That's a valid question. Either would be just fine for this plane offereing pretty much the same equipment at a $20 price difference.

The Differance Is Usaly The Size Of The Battery ( Bigger) And An Extra Servo For $20.00.That Is Way I Go.
Enjoy The Build

RE: Good flight pack?

That's wild, looks like same battery, same servos, but a newer receiver for $20 less. Even more interesting is the text for the one that says R127DF actually lists the R168DF as the included receiver. Is there just a premium that heli pilots are expected to pay? :D

RE: Good flight pack?

Say I wanted a different battery (6.0v 1650 mAh NiMh) battery, should I just order that seperately and use the 4.6v as a back up?

I would need a crystal for 61-90. I thought only channels 11-60 were flyable in the US?

RE: Good flight pack?

first dont waist your $ on a helecopter flight pack save some cash get a 168DF/4 and order a extra servo your getting your flt-pack for 127$ then crystal for 12$ done . 6volts for a 40 size twist dont need em. more V= speed and torque not flight time save your $. the 3004 servo is for planes, has Ball berings and work great I have them in warbirds as well as sport planes and there fine for your plane .

The package with the R168 is the way to go. Cheaper , newer design and if you notice the RX is NOT HI/LOW band sensitive. You can use any crystal from 1-60 in it without retuning.

Actually, you cannot use "any crystal". Channels 1-10 require an amatuer radio operator's license. Channels 11-60 are available for RC aircraft without licensing requirements.

I like the 3004 BB servo pack better with alerions wires etc. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXMHB1&P=ML also once they sent be a pack with square battery not the flat pack so if it is a concern verify I see in their pictures both styles. But TH has excellent fix the problems service.

richrd - the 3001 is also a BB servo and the battery you recommended is only 600 mah instead of the 1000 mah in the others.

RE: Good flight pack?

the 3001 is a larger servo than the 3004 weighs .3oz more aprox 10grams + the 1000 mah battery is almost a full oz heaver on a 40 size plane like a twist light is right. just my .2oz

According to Futaba specs, the 2 servos share identical external dimensions. Granted the 3001 is slightly heavier, must be built different? Many would be willing to take on a little more weight for the larger capacity RX battery also. I fly both servos and have never had problems with either.

Hi!
Why use such heavy battery??
There are modern 1000mAh NiMh cells (GP or Sanyo) available at 50g for a 4,8V pack!
There are also 2800 NiMh cells available at 90g for 4,8V pack.
Why use those ancient heavy Nicad cells anymore???

We were discussing what Futaba currently offers in their "factory" flight packs. These also can be charged easily with the "factory" wall wart chargers that their customers already have.
Naturally other options are available but he did not inquire about those. Remember also, this is a beginner forum.

So what's the difference between the 3001 and 3004's other than weight?

bruce88123 09-19-2006 07:09 AM

RE: Good flight pack?

I don't know. I was going by mfg posted info. Try asking the Futaba rep here:

I'm curious also.

I always buy the cheap 4 channel radio and use it for a flight pack. This way you get the switch ,servo extension, and an extra TX battery. Somebody else in the club can use the extra TX for a buddy box.

RE: Good flight pack?

It is my understanding that the 3001 has indirect potentiometer feedback and can live in higher vibration environments. Hence the helicopter applicability.

RE: Good flight pack?

Actually, I've come to find out that they both have indirect drive feedback pots.
There is a difference in the quality of the bearings allegedly and then there is also this comment from Krysta. the Futaba rep:
