Easy Question
 

This should be the easiest question to answer this month. I have a Nexstar that I've been flying since this fall (1st plane) I bought a Greatplanes J-3 Piper on ebay a few weeks ago. Decided to try to start it today since after two flights with Nexstar it is just too windy. My electric starter Hobbico Torqmaster deluexe has the large rubber insert , the piper has an OS 60 with a small metal nut/spinner. There is too much slippage when trying to start. I've been browsing through Towers and found the Miller Starter Insert Pink Hobbico. Is this the one I need to order?

Easy Answer: Pull the rubber stopper out of the electric starter. Turn the stopper around and put it back in the starter. Place the small hole firmly against the prop nut and press the starter button. Walla, your engine will start. I just saved you thirty bucks. Pass it on and save someone else some paydirt down the road. Good Luck and Happy Landings.

Thanks but i already tried that, it either slips or I have to press real hard then the starter won't turn the plane over. yet it easily turns my 46 over so I have decided the battery is adequately charged. New suggestions?

In additon the prop turns over easily by hand so it not that the motor is stiff

Rotate the prop clockwise until it is about to bump, place the reversed rubber cone plug on the prop nut, make sure the starter is properly in line with the engine and engage the starter. This should get her turning over. Make sure the cylinder head is not loading up on you.

I have the pink insert. It works great on spinner nuts, acorn nuts, and prop hubs.

Baja,
Clean off your rubber insert with some rubbing alcohol and try again. This will get all of the grease and gunk off of it and help it grip your spinner nut better.

You coud also enlarge A LITTLE that small hole, it will have a better grip on the prop nut. That's what I did when I had the same problem and it worked.
